Reed was designated for assignment by the Twins last week while in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester. The veteran reliever was struggling massively with eight runs allowed -- including four homers -- on 13 hits over five innings with the Red Wings.

Reed was in the middle of a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester, but poor results through four appearances with the Red Wings prompted the Twins to drop him from their 40-man roster in favor of right-hander Austin Adams, whose contract was selected from Rochester on Thursday. Across four appearances with Rochester, Reed has allowed six runs on 11 hits (three homers) and one walk while striking out three in four innings of work.

Reed has been out all season with a thumb sprain. Given the length of his absence, he's likely to require a handful of rehab appearances before being activated from the injured list.

Reed's main focus at this point remains keeping his conditioning in order while he waits for his sprained left thumb to fully heal. Since he's been sidelined for nearly a month with the injury, Reed will likely need to make multiple appearances as part of a minor-league rehab assignment before a return from the IL can be considered imminent.
