Moore was acquired by the Royals from the Rangers on Wednesday for cash considerations.
The MLB trade deadline may have come and gone last week, but minor leaguers like Moore are still free to be traded. The 35-year-old signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers in February and has a .255/.363/.349 slash line in 31 games at Triple-A.
Moore was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Moore received a major-league camp invitation with his minor-league deal in February but was never particularly likely to make the team. The veteran has appeared in at least one major-league game in nine of the last 10 years but has only once gotten into more than nine games in a season.
Moore signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Thursday which includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.
Moore spent the majority of last season at Triple-A, hitting just .219/.260/.347 in 58 games with Durham. The veteran backstop owns a career .199/.239/.312 slash line across parts of nine major-league seasons (104 games).
Moore was removed from the Rays' 40-man roster Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Moore and fellow catcher Jesus Sucre were cast off the team's 40-man roster in order to clear space for younger prospects in need of protection from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The veteran backstop appeared in just eight games for Tampa Bay in 2018, hitting .222/.263/.444 with one homer.
