FOX Sports officially announced Tuesday that Pierzynski would serve on its broadcast team on a full-time basis during the 2017 MLB season.
This likely spells the end of Pierzynski's playing career, which seemed to be a foregone conclusion after he failed to latch on with a team prior to spring training. The 40-year-old, a two-time All-Star, will end his 19-year career with 2,043 hits and 188 homers across stints with the Twins, Giants, White Sox, Rangers, Cardinals, Red Sox and Braves.
Braves reinstated A.J. Pierzynski from the 60-day disabled list. He is expected to retire.
The 39-year old backstop had a down season in 2016, posting a .219/.243/.304 slash line prior to a hamstring injury landing him on the DL. He had a good 2015, but it may be time for the veteran to hang up the cleats.
A.J. Pierzynski has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list, officially ending his season.
The 18 year veteran had his worst offensive season as a pro, batting just .219 with 2 home runs, and 23 RBI on the season in 2016. It is widely speculated that he will hang it up after this season, but no official announcement has been made. If he does decide to come back for a 19th season in the bigs, his days of fantasy relevance are well behind him.
A.J. Pierzynski (hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
There's been a bit of confusion surrounding Pierzynski as some people believed that he was retiring after last night's game, but the word circling around now is that Pierzynski isn't actually hurt and that he's going on the disabled list to get him off the active roster. At any rate, he will not feature for the Braves again this season, and most likely is going to officially retire after this season.
