WNBA DFS Playbook June 13: Top DraftKings & FanDuel WNBA DFS Picks

I think I’ve gotten spoiled by the last couple of WNBA DFS slates. After a five-game slate on Friday and a six-game slate on Sunday, we are back to just three games in Tuesday’s WNBA DFS slate. While I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the value and mid-tier options, I most felt the slate’s size in the top tier. There are obviously really good players at the top, but the ones with good matchups are either expensive or dealing with an injury or played poorly against the same team four days ago.
I feel this way most days but especially for this slate, I think it is important to get the cheaper players you want and fill in with whatever you can afford at the top. The top-tier players in my Playbook obviously made my list for a reason, but if you can’t afford those players and have to pivot to somebody else in that price range, odds are you will be just fine.

Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Marine Johannes | NY | ATL | 4600 | 13.31 | 4600 | 12.65 |
Sabrina Ionescu is questionable with a hamstring injury. Whoever starts in her place will be playablefor DFS but unlike the other candidates, I think Johannes will definitely have increased value even if she comes off the bench. Johannes averaged 18.8 fantasy points in 25.5 minutes last season and I think she could easily top those totals, especially if she starts.
Jewell Loyd | SEA | PHO | 10700 | 40.25 | 8500 | 38.27 |
You can pivot to Courtney Vandersloot if you need to, but I'm jumping on the Loyd bandwagon. Her efficiency has predictably fallen off the last couple of games, but she still has at least 39.5 fantasy points in four of her six starts. Vandersloot and Diana Taurasi are capable of that kind of production, but Loyd has bene more consistent and I don't think any of Phoenix's guards can stay in front of her.
Haley Jones | ATL | NY | 6500 | 13.57 | 4800 | 13.56 |
Jones struggled in her first start of the season, but she still played 32 minutes. Jones is averaging 0.74 fppm, so if she plays 32 minutes again and has an average game, we are looking at a cheap 23.68 fantasy points.
Allisha Gray | ATL | NY | 8800 | 30.54 | 6400 | 29.17 |
I'll be the first person to tell you that Rhyne Howard should be better than Gray for fantasy, but that hasn't been the case so far. New York is 10th in fantasy points allowed to guards, and with Betnijah Laney matching up with Howard, Gray should be free to attack New York's smaller guards.
Jordan Horston | SEA | PHO | 8300 | 19.25 | 5400 | 20.21 |
It would be easy to dismiss Horston now that Jewell Loyd has returned, especially with both sites listing Horston as a guard. Horston started at power forward Sunday and played a season-high 29 minutes despite Loyd being back in the lineup. We just saw NaLyssa Smith have the game of her life against Phoenix on Sunday, and I like our chances of getting a big game from Horston Tuesday.
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Sophie Cunningham | PHO | SEA | 7700 | 20.96 | 5900 | 20.67 |
Shey Peddy is probable and Moriah Jefferson in questionable, and that is not great news for Cunningham. Even so, she has played at least 32 minutes in four straight games, so it may not matter who else is available in Phoenix's backcourt. Cunningham still hasn't regained her form from the end of last season, but she does have at least 22.75 fantasy points in four of her last five games. There are plenty of more expensive guards who aren't any more consistent than Cunningham, and I think she matches up well with Seattle's guards. |
Forwards | |||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG
Breanna Stewart | NY | ATL | 12200 | 51.84 | 9300 | 52.21
Its actually possible Sabrina Ionescu's injury hurts Stewart, who is having the most efficient shooting season of her career. That being said, Atlanta has allowed the most fantasy points to forwards in the league, including 49.25 to Stewart just four days ago. Stewart is averaging a full 10.6 fantasy points more than any other player on the slate, and with so many cheaper options that I like, I think it is pretty easy to simply lock Stewart in your lineups, even if it costs quite a bit to do so.
Jonquel Jones | NY | ATL | 7500 | 19.19 | 5500 | 18.69
Jones is in no-man's-land between the consistent, elite performers and the dart throws. On any other slate she would be interesting but in this one, she's nearly a must-play. Jones played a season-high 27 minutes Sunday, and while her fantasy production slumped a bit in that game, she is still averaging 0.94 fppm. If Sabrina Ionescu sits, Jones could see even more minutes and usage. I'm willing to take a chance regardless of Ionescu's status, but it is possible Jones returns to playing 16-21 minutes like she did in the first seven games of the season.
Michaela Onyenwere | PHO | SEA | 5100 | 18.39 | 5200 | 17.64
Only Atlanta has allowed more fantasy points to forwards than Seattle, and Onyenwere is coming off a season-high 30.5 fantasy points in 32 minutes. Onyenwere has been inconsistent but nobody else in her price range has proven capable of playing 30 minutes or scoring 30 fantasy points.
Shakira Austin | WAS | IND | 10200 | 30.81 | 7200 | 30.41
I really, really want to play Elena Delle Donne, and I might do so in a tournament or two. That being said, I'm worried that Delle Donne's neck injury will limit her minutes or effectiveness or both. Austin actually had her worst game since the opener with Delle Donne out, so I like her to bounce back Tuesday. I will probably try to pay up for another forward on DraftKings but I think Austin's price is more than reasonable on FanDuel.
NaLyssa Smith | IND | WAS | 9400 | 32.16 | 6600 | 29.46
I don't love any of the top tier forwards in this slate, so if we can't afford to pay for Breanna Stewart or Brittney Griner, we may as well save money. I usually stay away from Washington for DFS, as they have the best defensive rating in the league and it isn't particularly close. On the plus side, only two teams ahve allowed more rebounds to opponents than Washington. Perhaps more importantly, I just watched Ezi Magbegor go right at the Washington bigs all weekend. I think both Indiana forwards are capable of doing that Tuesday but I'll go with the one who is cheaper on both sites and is averaging more fantasy points on DraftKings. |
