PGA DFS Core Plays: Sentry Tournament of Champions

Published: Jan 05, 2021
Daily Fantasy Golf is back for the 2021 season and I could not be more excited. We actually never really left because of the PGA Tour's wrap-around schedule but it was a nice holiday break before getting back into the grind.
We start with the Sentry Tournament of Champions played on the Hawaiian Island of Maui on the Plantation course at the Kapalua Resort. The only players invited to play in this event are winners from the past season on the PGA Tour. Besides taking home a nice purse, these players get to play on one of the most beautiful courses in the world. This event will always hold a special place in my heart not because of the tournament itself but I actually had the pleasure of playing the course on my honeymoon. I will not tell you what I shot but it definitely got into the triple digits. I still wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. The course has been updated since I played it nearly five years ago but only for the better.
The first thing I do whenever you've got a course played on an island is look at the weather forecast for wind predictions. That'll be the main defense on this course. According to the forecast, the wind will be relatively tame with winds in the teens throughout the weekend. Most of these players can handle those numbers but there are definitely guys who excel under those conditions.
There are only 42 players in this field and there is no cut. You won’t see Rory McIlory or Tyrrell Hatton this weekend but we’ve got a bunch of big names making their debuts like Scottie Scheffler, Sungjae Im, Abraham Ancer, and Viktor Hovland to name a few. There will be no full playbook this week with such a small field but I’ll providing you with my core plays. It’s a new feature from Fantasy Alarm where I give you my three favorite plays from the top tier, mid-tier and value tier for this weekend’s event for both DraftKings and Fanduel. Next week’s Sony Open will be my first full playbook event of 2021. I wish you all the best of luck this weekend but remember we've got a long way to go, so don't go too crazy the first week.
