The highly awaited week in golf has finally arrived: it's Masters week at Augusta National Golf Club, and the 2025 tournament – along with The Masters predictions – is already poised to be historic. With tension brewing and narratives intertwining from both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, this year's event feels like a powder keg ready to explode.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is back, aiming to make history, while Rory McIlroy comes to Augusta with both momentum and the pressure of pursuing a career grand slam that has eluded him for over ten years. However, despite these star players, this year's competition appears particularly open.

The Masters 2025 Predictions

Many of the top golfers are facing uncertainties – whether it's inconsistent performance, ongoing injuries, or the unknown of how their skills will hold up on such a prestigious stage.

Joaquin Niemann has been impressive on LIV Golf, but can he finally shine in a major? Is Xander Schauffele's recovery from a rib injury timely enough for him to compete? Will Ludvig Aberg or Hideki Matsuyama bounce back from recent setbacks?

With seasoned veterans and eager young talents vying for their first big win, the 2025 Masters is set to deliver surprises. Whether you're betting, crafting a fantasy team, or just engaging in friendly debates, we’re here to guide you through expert The Masters free picks as we head into Augusta.

The Masters Free Picks Featuring Corey Conners & Rory McIlroy

Corey Conners To Finish Top 20 (+160 at DraftKings)

Conners is one of my favorite players this week for The Masters predictions. He’s playing great golf entering this field, as he has T24th or better finishes in each of his last 5 starts. He’s got multiple top 10 finishes at Augusta, and his driver and wedges have been clear strengths of his game.

This lines up well for success at Augusta given how the course has played over the last few years. Additionally, the only player who has been better tee-to-green in the four events leading up to the Masters this year has been Scottie Scheffler.

This metric of success has a direct correlation to winning here, as each of the last 13 winners in this event has had at least 18 Total Strokes Gained in their four events prior to The Masters. For reference, Conners is sitting at 30.7 Total Strokes Gained. His game is in prime form for Augusta, the historical correlation to winning is there, and as a result this value is too good to pass up.

The Masters One & Done Pick: Rory McIlory

This is the first time I can say I actually feel like Rory can win here. Rory has never looked this good entering Augusta, with wins in 2 of his 5 PGA Tour starts this year, and no finishes worse than T17th on the year. He’s been great tee-to-green, the putter has been a strength, and the driver remains one of the best attributes for him.

Even without a win at Augusta, he’s been one of the best players here by a long shot, as he currently sits 9th all-time in True Strokes Gained at Augusta (minimum 8 rounds played).. In 16 starts here, he’s missed only 3 cuts, has one finish outside the top 25, and has 7 top 10’s. Also of note, since the Olympics, he’s got just one finish outside the top 25, and since the last Masters he has 5 wins, 3 runner up finishes, and 6 top 5’s.

He’s a contender every week he’s in the field, and the $20,000,000 purse makes him a great choice for The Masters predictions. With one and done picks, we want to save the big names for the big purses, and while I understand the desire for many to save the LIV Golf players for this type of event, Rory has a much clearer path to returning value than any of the LIV players in the event.

The Masters Long Shot Pick: J.J. Spaun (130/1 at DraftKings)

Spaun meets a lot of the criteria we’re looking at this week. He’s been the 5th best player tee-to-green in the last 4 events (sitting at 25.4 Total Strokes Gained), has been gaining strokes in all facets of the game, and offers us a potential +EV pick in an event when so few people project to give us positive expected value.

He’s only played Augusta once as a pro, finishing T23rd in his debut, and he’s playing better golf now than he was entering that event. While he did have a win just prior to Augusta last time, he had 2 missed cuts and multiple finishes outside the top 30 prior.

This time, he’s entering off just one missed cut, and two runner up finishes. His game fits the course well, and he’s the biggest +EV play I can find not only in the event, but maybe that I’ve seen thus far in 2025. Let’s roll with some value for The Masters in J.J. Spaun.
