Welcome to our Sunday Playbook and NHL DFS picks today!
We're approaching the stretch run for the NHL regular season and it's time for teams to iron out the final details and get set for the playoffs.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, March 23rd
Despite it being a smaller five-game slate, we should be in for plenty of offense tonight with six teams boasting implied goal totals at 3.0 or higher.
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy
- Sam Bennett More Than 0.5 Points
- Dylan Holloway More Than 0.5 Points
- Sebastian Aho More Than 2.5 Shots on Goal
The Florida Panthers come in with a slate-high 3.5 implied goal total and they need to get the offense going. They've lost three of their last four games but have a softer matchup versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sam Bennett comes in with 10 points and 32 shots on goal over the last 10 games, putting him as the most consistent option in their offense.
Dylan Holloway might not be a household name in the NHL but he's crushing it right now with 12 points in his last 10 games while seeing time on the first forward line and the second power-play unit. It's a great matchup versus the Nashville Predators, who have allowed 2.82 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations since the start of March, which is the sixth-worst in the league.
The Carolina Hurricanes got absolutely smoked yesterday 7-2 against the Kings but are in a spot to bounce back versus the Anaheim Ducks. Simply put, the Canes need to be better and that starts with their top-line center, Sebastian Aho, who had no shots on goal yesterday but prior to that, he had at least two shots on goal in four straight games. He's live to hit this every game and they need a strong performance after yesterday's disaster.
Sunday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Jordan Binnington - STL
The St. Louis Blues are solid -175 home favorites and are surging into a Western Conference wild-card spot. They now have a very winnable matchup against the Nashville Predators tonight.
Both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back and are expected to have Binnington in net tonight, who has been good in recent starts. He was on fire directly after the 4 Nations tournament but has cooled off a bit since then, however, I'm not worried about this matchup.
Despite a five-goal outing last night, the Predators aren't a good offense. Since the start of March, the Predators have scored 2.14 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 10th lowest in the league. The Blues have been super solid on defense with 1.71 Goals allowed over the same time and in the same situations, which is fourth-best in the league.
Play Of The Day: Jordan Kyrou - W - STL
From the Blues' goalie to their top player, Jordan Kyrou. He, along with most of their offense, is cooking right now and he comes in with 5 goals, 7 assists, and 27 shots on goal over his last 10 games. Time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit continues to put him in a great spot for scoring.
The Predators are not a good defense and it's an awesome spot for the Blues to hit or exceed their 3.2 implied goal total. That shouldn't be too much of a problem since the Blues have scored 3.1 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-best in the league.
For only a five-game slate, we have some great top-tier talent, but I like Kyrou in a very soft matchup and the Blues playing for a ton in a wild-card race.
Value Play Of The Day: Scott Morrow - D - CAR
The Carolina Hurricanes are dealing with a number of injuries right now and it opens up opportunities for young players and that's where Scott Morrow comes into play.
Morrow has only played a few games this season and in the last five, he comes in with three assists, one goal, and nine shots on goal. He's seeing time on the second power-play unit and with the Canes sporting a 3.3 implied goal total today against the Ducks, he's in a spot for some offense.
Stack Of The Day: FLA L1 (Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, Mackie Samoskevich)
Despite the fact the Panthers' offense isn't humming at 100% right now, they're objectively in a great spot today against the Pittsburgh Penguins and we should look to trust them.
Since the start of March, the Panthers have scored 1.62 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-lowest in the league. However, if we look at their Expected Goals Scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, they are up at 2.69, which is the 10th-highest in the league.
They are underproducing by nearly a full goal and doing all the right things on offense, they just aren't getting the results.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
