NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Sunday Playbook

Published: Oct 27, 2024
We have a small four-game slate that is loaded with a ton of options to choose from. The Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche all have team totals above 3.5, so we will see goals tonight. Let’s dive right into it and look at which players you need to keep an eye on when building your NHL DFS lineup.
Today’s NHL DFS Slate Overview
Before we get into DFS, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Underdog. There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Underdog With Promo Code ALARM
- Kirby Dach O/1.5 SOG
- Cale Makar O/0.5 PPP
- Jake Sanderson O/2 BLKS
Kirby Dach seems to be getting back to his normal self. The Canadiens are playing the tail end of a back-to-back and they aren’t a team that shoots the puck a lot, but if their power play can contribute, Dach should be able to get two shots on goal before the end of the night.
Cale Makar is elite and you can’t say otherwise. Colorado’s power play is operating at 39% and Ottawa’s penalty kill is at 75%. I expect to see a healthy amount of power play chances and for Makar to be part of the action.
Jake Sanderson can contribute offensively, but it’s his defensive skills that we are looking at here. He has 23 blocked shots in seven games this season and has blocked two or more in each of his last four games. Considering how many shots the Avalanche can generate, I expect Sanderson to hit the over before the end of the second period.
Sunday SALARY CAP DFS
Goalie Of The Day: Jake Allen - NJD
I truly cannot stress how much I hate this pick. The Devils are facing an Anaheim team that is playing their second game in as many nights and they didn’t put up much of a fight yesterday. New Jersey should have no issue getting the win here, but that doesn’t mean Jake Allen is going to hit value. I want to see more from the Devils goaltending tandem and it starts tonight!
Play Of The Day: Cale Makar - COL
I can’t stop saying enough good things about Cale Makar. He has finished with 20 or more fantasy points in four of the last five games and continues to just rack up points. His floor is so high, making him a safe bet every night. I think we see Makar finish with multiple points and more than enough fantasy points to hit value.
Value Play Of The Day: Viktor Arvidsson - EDM
On Friday I spoke about how Viktor Arvidsson was in a good spot to produce and boy did he ever. He finished with three assists-- his first points of the season-- and a whopping 24 fantasy points. I’m going right back to him tonight. He’s still very affordable and gets us some cheap exposure to Edmonton’s top-6.
Stack Of The Day - COL PP1 (Nathan MacKinnon - Mikko Rantanen - Cale Makar)
As mentioned above, the Ottawa Senators are not very good on the penalty kill so we want to take advantage of that. If you’re going to stack a power play trio, make it this one. I know it will cost you, but it truly doesn’t get better than these three.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
