NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/7
There's been a noticeable change in lines posted by sportsbooks over the past week, which factors into our NHL best bets today.
We're rarely seeing 6.5 totals, as games are becoming a bit tighter across the board.
Flames vs. Sharks Prediction: Monday, April 7th
The Calgary Flames' season is hanging on by a thread right now and this is not a game they can afford to lose. Right now, the Flames are six points behind the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, so they need to win games and get a bit of help elsewhere.
Of course, they have to take care of business on their end and that starts with coming away with a win over the lowly San Jose Sharks tonight. Over the last two weeks, the Sharks have allowed 65.24 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-worst in the league. This is nothing new for them, as we've targeted them all season for shot props since their defense is so bad.
Over that same time frame and in the same situations, the Flames have generated a whopping 70.91 Total Shot Attempts, which is the second-best in the league. They need to score to win the game, it sounds silly but it's as simple as that for the Flames.
Let's turn to Nazem Kadri for our NHL best bets today, who leads the team with 257 shots on goal this season, along with 35 in his last 10 games, which is also the team-high. In the first two games against the Sharks this season, Kadri piled up 6 and 7 shots, which is the type of effort they'll need from him tonight.

Oilers vs. Ducks Prediction: Monday, April 7th
While it looks unlikely that the Oilers will catch the Los Angeles Kings to take back the second seed in the Pacific, and thus, home ice in the first round, they need to end the season on a high note.
With both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl out of the lineup for the past few games, it's clear the offense and roles for players have changed a bit. This opens up a bit of value when players have new roles and that brings us to Viktor Arvidsson.
He's now on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which has allowed him to rack up at least four shots in four straight games, and three shots in seven of his last 11 games. Some of those games included both McDavid and Draisaitl, some only Draisaitl, some neither of them. While the lineup and his role have changed a good amount over this stretch of games, his shot volume is pretty solid.
As for the matchup, it's a great one versus the Ducks, since they've allowed 62.48 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the eighth-worst in the league over the last two weeks. The Oilers could still get home ice back in the first round and that would start with them beating a bad Ducks team tonight. Lock 'em into your NHL best bets today.

Player News
Bills waived TE Armani Rogers.
This is unfortunate. Rogers recently ruptured his Achilles tendon for the second time in three years. He showed promise as a 2022 rookie, earning a 65.3 PFF receiving grade and a 68.0 PFF run-blocking grade, but the injuries are taking their toll. The Bills also released DT Branson Deen.
Jo Adell is not in the Angels’ starting lineup for Thursday evening’s battle against the Rangers in Arlington.
There have been no mentions of any physical issues that Adell is dealing with, so we’re assuming it’s just a regular day of rest for the 26-year-old slugger. Kyren Paris will move to center field to cover for him while Luis Rengifo slides over to second base and J.D. Davis will get an opportunity at the hot corner. For those tracking at home, that will be the fifth game in the outfield this season for Paris as he works towards eligibility there for fantasy purposes.
Christopher Morel is absent from the Rays’ starting lineup for Thursday’s tilt against the Yankees.
Morel had started each of the team’s previous 10 games, so it looks like they’re just trying to give him a breather. The 25-year-old slugger is slashing a healthy .288/.362/.404 with one homer, six RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 17 games on the season. Richie Palacios will start in his place in left field on Thursday night and will bat sixth against Will Warren and the Yankees.
Kyle Manzardo is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s showdown against the Orioles.
It appears to be just a routine day of rest for the 24-year-old slugger with right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano toeing the slab for the Orioles. Manzardo has slowed considerably after his strong start to the season as he’s slashing just .185/.313/.463 to go along with four homers and 11 RBI. Jose Ramirez will function as the Guardians’ designated hitter in his place on Thursday with Gabriel Arias sliding over to third base and Daniel Schneemann drawing a start at second base.
Trae Young (Achilles) is probable for Friday’s game against the Heat.
Even in the postseason, the Hawks continue to list Young as probable with an Achilles injury. The listing is performative, stemming from Young being held out of an NBA Cup game earlier this season despite not appearing on the injury report, which resulted in a $100K fine for the Hawks. With the Hawks’ season on the line Friday, expect Young to be cleared to play once again.
Tyler Soderstrom went 1-for-5 and blasted his league-leading ninth home run on Thursday as the Athletics clobbered the White Sox 8-0 in Chicago.
Soderstrom did his damage in the seventh inning of this one, launching a 3-2 slider from Brandon Eisert for a 374-foot (103.9 mph EV) solo shot that made it a 5-0 ballgame. It has taken the 23-year-old slugger just 19 games to match his home run output from the 2024 season where he swatted nine long balls in 213 plate appearances over 61 ballgames. He’s obviously not going to continue at this remarkable pace, but Soderstrom needs to be rostered and started in all fantasy leagues.
