NHL DFS Core Plays November 6th: Trevor Zegras looks to keep scoring facing the Panthers
Published: Nov 06, 2022
Today's three-game NHL DFS slate is highlighted by Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on Sebastian Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes. Also don't miss out on some of the great value plays available on defence today with Filip Hronek of the Red Wings facing the Rangers. As always don't forget you can use the lineup generator powered by Fanjections to help put your lineup together as well.
Red Wings at Rangers
The Rangers should have the advantage in this matchup with Detroit having played yesterday, while the Rangers haven’t played since Thursday. Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, and Artemi Panarin have been providing the bulk of the offence with each player having three points in their last three games. Kreider in particular also had 13 shots in those three games, and we have seen Vincent Trocheck put 12 shots on goal in that time as well. This provides you with two staking options for them with either Kreider/Zibanejad or Panarin/Trocheck, with the Kreider/ZIbanejad being the more expensive, but also providing more upside as ZIbanejad is a player who will put up games where he has more than five shots, while Panarin isn’t much of a volume shooter. You can also look at Kappo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere as cheaper options, but they won’t see as much power play time but will play with the other combinations five-on-five. For the Red Wings, Dylan Larkin should be their top player to target. He has four points in his last three games, and he can be paired with Lucas Raymond who has scored in back-to-back games. If you’re looking for a pairing that will be less owned you can put Dominik Kubalik and David Perron as both players are on the same line and both are also on the top powerplay unit.
On defence, Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba will be top options for the Rangers. Trouba has a much safer floor as he blocks shots and takes them, but Fox has the best chance to get points. You can also look at Ryan Lindgren if he plays as he will be inexpensive and he will block lots of shots as well. For the Red Wings, you can look at Moritz Seider who has been on the top power play recently, but I wouldn’t lose track of Filip Hronek who has gotten the top powerplay time at different points in the year.
Looking at the goalies, we should expect a matchup between Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers and Alex Nedeljkovic of the Red Wings. Shesterkin has played well at home this season putting up a 0.920 save percentage and should be a solid option again today in both cash and GPP games. Nedeljkovic hasn’t played well this season, but in a GPP he could be worth a dart throw as he will see low ownership and could face enough shots to get to the save bonus.
Maple Leafs at Hurricanes
It would appear that Auston Matthews has found his goal-scoring touch again. He has four goals in his last three games, as well as back-to-back games where he has five shots or more. He should be considered a top option today and you can pair him with either Mitch Marner or Michael Bunting depending on how much of an investment you want to make in the Maple Leafs today. I think you can also look at John Tavares and William Nylander in this matchup as well as they should see the better matchup and both players also have four points in their last three games. For the Hurricanes I think you can look at Sebastian Aho who has five points in his last three games, and you can pair him with Seth Jarvis who has had three-point in that span. You could also look to Martin Necas who has six points in his last three games as well as 12 shots. If you’re going to use Necas in a stack I would pair him with Andrei Svechnikov
For Toronto, we haven’t seen a lot of production from their defence when it comes to scoring. Morgan Rielly is the top option in that perspective as he gets the time on the top powerplay. A player you can look at through for the Maple Leafs is Justin Holl. Holl has blocked four shots last night and he has gotten more than three in two of his last four games. For the Hurricanes Brent Burns is a solid option most nights he has 19 shots in his last four games with more than five in each of his last three games which gives him a great floor and makes him a threat to have big games.
In goal in this one we are expecting Erik Kallgren to be in goal for Toronto and for him to be facing Frederik Andersen. Kallgren hasn’t played well this year, so if you’re going to take a goalie in this one it should be Andersen who has been solid most nights since coming to Carolina last season.
Panthers at Ducks
This should be a game where we see lots of goals. Both teams played last night in 5-4 games so I wouldn’t be surprised if there were nine or more goals scored in this game as well. Matthew Tkachuk continues to play well for the Panthers and he has been shooting the puck a tonne as well with seven or more shots in three of his last five games to go along with four points in his last three games. Carter Verhague has also been playing well. He has scored goals in three if his last four games. The Ducks have seen good performances from Trevor Zegras (three goals and four assists), Troy Terry (one goal and five assists), as well as Frank Vatrano (one goal, one assist, and 16 shots) over the last four games. You can use Vetrano with Zegras as they play together five-on-five, or you can use Terry with Zegras as they are both on the top power play if you’re looking for a Ducks stack.
On defence for Florida, the primary options are going to be Gustav Forsling and Brandon Montour. Forsling has 17 shots in his last four games while Montour gets the top power play time and has 18 shots in his last four games. Both players will be point-dependent however as the Panthers are not a team that blocks many shots. With the Ducks, you will want to look at John Klingberg. He gets the top powerplay and he has four points in his last four games.
We are expecting Spencer Knight to face John Gibson in this one with Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz both playing yesterday. Gibson could be an interesting option as the Panthers have averaged 42 shots on goal per game over the last two weeks. The Ducks average 31 shots on goal which makes Knight an option, but he hasn’t played really well so I would keep his usage to GPP’s only.
