NHL Injury Report October 30th
Published: Oct 30, 2021
Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. The injury report is going to keep you up to date on all the important injuries going on around the league, and how that might affect your fantasy hockey team. Make sure to check back regularly for any updates. Let’s take a look at some players that are either ruled out, or that we need to monitor.
Rickard Rakell
The Ducks have placed winger Rickard Rakell on IR and it doesn’t sound like he will return anytime soon. The veteran forward played only 13-minutes against Buffalo and was placed on IR the next day. He had scored four goals this season and was a big part of the team’s early success. If you can’t stash him on your bench, it might be wise to just drop him.
Mikko Rantanen
Mikko Rantanen is out of the lineup due to a lower-body injury, but is considered day-to-day. We don’t know when he suffered the injury, but he wasn’t at practice on Friday, and he’s out of the lineup for the second game in a row. It’s encouraging to hear that the injury doesn’t seem serious, so maybe we see him again on the ice next week?
Patrick Kane
Patrick Kane remains out of the lineup due to COVID-19, but he could return to the lineup as early as the beginning of next week. He’s going to miss a fourth game in a row, and so far, the Blackhawks are 0-3 without him on the ice.
Sam Bennett
Sam Bennett is out of the lineup for Saturday’s game due to an upper-body injury. The injury doesn’t seem to be serious, so his stint out of the lineup shouldn’t be too long. We don’t know much about the injury, so it’s somethin to monitor as we enter next week.
Drew Doughty
Drew Doughty left Friday’s game due to a knee injury and his return to the lineup is still unknown. It’s likely that he doesn’t play Saturday, but we don’t know if he will miss Tuesday’s game too. He’s considered day-to-day for now.
**UPDATED**
Drew Doughty is expected to be out of the lineup for at least eight weeks due to a knee injury. Brutal news for the Kings and fantasy owners.
Mats Zuccarello
Mats Zuccarello is out of the lineup for at least ten days after testing positive for COVID-19. Ten days away isn’t too bad, but how long it takes him to get back into the lineup is another story. He was off to a great start to the season, so hopefully he can come back and pick up right where he left off.
Nikita Kucherov
Nikita Kucherov hurt himself last Saturday and has been placed on LTIR. This is a huge blow for fantasy owners who were expecting big things from the Russian winger after missing all of last season due to injury. Tampa Bay has already ruled him out until November 13th, and the expectation is he might not be ready to return when eligible. This isn’t a good situation, but until we get more information, it’s best to stash him away on IR and hope he can return sooner rather than later.
Ryan O’Reilly
Ryan O’Reilly is out of the lineup for at least ten days due to COVID-19. Like Zuccarello, it’s likely that O’Reilly did test positive or is experiencing symptoms, so he won't be seen on the ice until at least November 7th. It’s not ideal, but fantasy owners can stash him for now and check the waiver wire for some short-term help.
T.J Oshie
T.J. Oshie is out of the lineup due to a lower-body injury and is considered week-to-week. The veteran winger was off to a somewhat strong start to the season, but the news that this injury isn’t a day-to-day thing means he could only miss one week, or could be out for multiple weeks. Hopefully we can get more information in the coming days.
