Player News
Orioles recalled LHP Grant Wolfram from Triple-A Norfolk.
Wolfram has pitched to a serviceable 5.40 ERA across 3 1/3 innings (three appearances) this season in the big leagues. The towering 28-year-old southpaw joins Baltimore’s relief corps ahead of Sunday’s first-half finale against the Marlins.
Orioles designated RHP Corbin Martin for assignment.
Martin was one of the better pitching prospects in the game roughly a half-decade ago, but his career has been derailed by serious injury. The 29-year-old righty was called up earlier this month by the Orioles and wound up making just one relief appearance for the club.
USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reports rival NL executives believe the Diamondbacks are making Eugenio Suárez, Josh Naylor, Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly available at the trade deadline.
No major surprise. The quartet are all slated to hit the free agent market this upcoming offseason, which makes them attractive rentals for contenders in either league, as the injury-ravaged Diamondbacks prepare to pivot towards the 2026 season instead. Suárez, who launched two homers during Saturday’s loss to the Angels, is well on his way to the first 50-homer campaign of his career with a whopping 31 round-trippers heading into the All-Star break. Gallen and Kelly would be two of the bigger names available at the upcoming deadline from a starting pitching standpoint.
Braves recalled RHP Davis Daniel from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Daniel provides Atlanta’s injury-ravaged pitching mix with a spot starter for Sunday’s first-half against St. Louis. The 28-year-old righty has made one relief appearance this season in the majors. He’s posted a respectable 3.52 ERA across 76 2/3 innings (15 appearances, 14 starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes on the road at Busch Stadium in his first start of the year.
Braves optioned LHP Austin Cox to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Cox has ping-ponged between Atlanta’s bullpen mix and Triple-A Gwinnett over the last few weeks, compiling a respectable 2.25 ERA and 11/1 K/BB ratio across eight innings (six appearances) in the big leagues. He should be back at some point in late July or early August.
Baseball America’s Geoff Pontes reports Pirates SS prospect Konnor Griffin checked out fine after being hit by a pitch during Saturday’s MLB All-Star Futures Game.
It’s a relief after Griffin was hit by a 97-mph pitch during the fourth inning of Saturday’s prospect showcase. The 19-year-old prodigy, who will likely finish the season as the top prospect in the fantasy landscape, started for the National League at shortstop and batted second. He finished 1-for-2 and was also caught stealing. He’s hitting .327 with 13 homers and 41 steals across 75 games this season between High-A Greensboro and Low-A Bradenton in his professional debut. The hype is real.
