Welcome back! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and other who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.
Andre Burakovsky - Colorado Avalanche - Right Wing/Left Wing
With injuries piling up for the Avs, Burakovsky moves up to the top line with MacKinnon. He has 8 points in his last 4 games since getting the promotion, so you will want to get him while you can. He is owned in under 40% on both Yahoo, and ESPN, so there is a good chance he is available in your league too. Keep in mind however, that his value is likely going to be directly related to his time with MacKinnon, so if you see that change you will want to pivot away from him.
Anthony Beauvillier - New York Islanders - Left Wing
Keep this between me and you... but Beauvillier has been a beast so far this year, and it seems no one has noticed. He has 16 points in 8 games, and has been a key cog of what has made the Islanders unbeatable in the last few weeks. He is under 10% owned in major formats, so you should definitely consider going to get him before the rest of your league catches on.
Morgan Frost - Philadelphia Flyers - Centre
Frost thus far is making the most of his time with the Flyers. The former first round pick has produced since getting the call, and the Flyers have had him playing with their top talent, Giroux and Konecny. While he is on the first line, he isn’t seeing first line minutes just yet, but Alain Vigneault is trusting him to play short handed. This is the type of player that could change your outcome in a league, but you should also be prepared to drop in a couple of weeks if he goes cold.
Connor Garland - Arizona Coyotes - Right Wing
Garland has very quietly scored 10 goals this year, while hidden deep in the desert. He is on the top line for the Coyotes, and is on the top power play unit, which is allowing him plenty of opportunity to keep scoring goals. His ice time isn’t ideal for him to keep up his goal scoring pace, but if his time on the power play stays high so will his value.
Nate Schmidt - Vegas Golden Knights - Defence
Schmidt has supplanted Shea Theodore on both the top pair, and on the first power play. He has 6 points in his last 4 games, and has 8 points in 11 games on the season. He has played recently as a top defencemen, and is in a position to maintain that stature, and really break out for the Golden Knights. He can be a difference maker in your lineup and should be owned in all formats.
Anders Nilsson - Ottawa Senators - Goalie
Aside from the one bad start at Carolina, Nilsson has been fantastic so far in the month of November. He has posted save percentages over in 5 of his 6 starts, all 5 of those being wins. Ottawa has 4 starts next week so he should see starts at Columbus, home to Boston, and either at Minnesota or @ Calgary. The games at Columbus, and either the Minnesota or Calgary games are very winnable for the Sens.
Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
