Underdog Fantasy NHL Picks December 14th: Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs host the Blue Jackets
Welcome into NHL player projections central for the season on Underdog Fantasy! Player projections are becoming one of the hottest growing things in hockey over the past few seasons and I have definitely taken notice as it adds yet another layer to a great game experience. Throughout this season you will find picks offered on the Underdog site that I find the most appealing as there are many to choose from so that's why I'm here to help you sift through the options.
For today's slate, we have 8 games on tap around the NHL and plenty of options for player props! I have highlighted a trio of plays that I will be following tonight that includes 3 players around the league for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Seattle Kraken and Ottawa Senators! Good luck to everyone on the plays tonight, let's win some cheddar!
NHL Underdog Fantasy Top Picks December 14
Auston Matthews, Toronto Maple Leafs - HIGHER than 4.5 Shots On Goal
Not going to lie 4.5 shots is a mammoth of a play in the NHL but if there was ever anyone to go higher its Auston Matthews! He has missed the mark recently on the line but something interesting is that he has topped 4.5 shots in every single career game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This trend should continue as the Jackets allow 35.2 shots per game on the away ice this season, the 3rd highest total in the NHL. Time for a monster game for a top tier player!
Matty Beniers, Seattle Kraken - HIGHER than 2.0 Shots on Goal
Its been a bit of a slow season for the Kraken after the breakout last year but its a great matchup for them tonight as the Chicago Blackhawks come into town. Chicago is allowing 32.5 shots per game on the road this season, 5th most in the NHL and they are also 4-11-0 overall, not good at all! Enter Beniers who has turned it up lately with going higher than 2 shots in 7 of the past 15 games that includes 3 pushes so it doesn't cost us. I think he gets to 3 or more tonight in a game that should be wide open for both teams.
Tim Stutzle, Ottawa Senators - HIGHER than 2.5 Shots on Goal
Hard to pin down the Senators this season as I would have thought they make a run at the playoffs but right now its a bit murky. Same goes for the players but its a nice matchup tonight against a vulnerable St. Louis Blues team that just fired their Stanley Cup winning coach. The Blues allow 32.46 shots per game the 7th most in the NHL and the Sens stars love to shoot the puck. Stutzle has gone higher than 2.5 shots on goal in 14 of 23 games this season for a 61% hit rate. Not too shabby for a struggling team overall, let's take it and run with him tonight.
