NFL DFS Week 2 Watch List: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

The excitement level for Week 2 NFL DFS is absolutely off the charts right now. The NFL DFS Playbook for Week 1 was filled with several of the top plays and the Dart Board nailed it with Jahan Dotson who was the highest-scoring player for the cheapest price on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Did we have a few missteps? Of course. The first week is always the trickiest, not only due to unforeseen busts or injuries, but also because there were a number of situations that still needed sorting. Who was going to be Patrick Mahomes' favorite wide receiver? What about for Aaron Rodgers? We also had some questions surrounding backfields such as who the lead was in Miami or in Baltimore? While we did receive some clarity, was it enough for us to gain an edge in our Week 2 NFL DFS contests? In some cases, yes. In some, no. But what we do know is that, if you go back and look at Playbooks from previous seasons, you'll see that our NFL DFS picks get better and better each week with all of the added data and knowledge.
To start the NFL DFS Week 2 Watch List, please allow me to welcome all of the new members of the Fantasy Alarm #FAmily. There are a lot of you and we thank you for joining. Now it's up to us to help you cash consistently on your NFL DFS action and we are psyched to make that happen. Since you are new to the Watch List, allow me to share some thoughts real quick:
“If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
We take this adage to heart when it comes to playing NFL DFS. The Fantasy Alarm Playbook isn’t just about handing you a list of players and a lineup to use each week. It is designed to help you learn to be a better DFS player. It’s about teaching you the process used in selecting which players to scout and, eventually, which ones to use.
Therefore, we will begin each week with the Weekly NFL DFS Watch List which is designed to keep tabs on marquee names, chalk plays and, of course, the weekly bargains who may not see the same coverage and exposure. This piece will be continuously updated throughout the week, based on the most recent news and injuries, which means you may see a name or two removed as we get closer to Sunday kick-off. You may also see a few late-week additions who pique our interest for some reason too, and by the end of the week, this Watch List will eventually become your Playbook. Again, it’s about teaching you the process.
So what exactly did last week's Playbook deliver? As always, we like to check in to ensure we remain on the right path.
Scoring The Playbook Week 1
As I mentioned, Week 1 can always be tricky but we managed to come out on top in style. The optimal lineup for the Playbook scored 237.86 DK points and while that would have only been good for 15th place in the Milly-Maker, it would have crushed in virtually every other GPP tournament, so keep that in mind for contest selection moving forward.
Here are the highlights:
- All seven of our recommended QBs provided 2x value with 6-of-7 hitting the 3x mark
- Nine of our 12 recommended WRs hit 2x value and six of them hit the 3x value mark
- Only three RBs hit the 3x value but we nailed the top-two scorers in Jonathan Taylor and Saquon Barkley
- Miami Dolphins & L.A. Chargers were the top two recommended defenses to use and both hit 3x value
- The optimal lineup from just Playbook and Dart Board players scored 237.86 DK points

All set? Are you ready to start diving in to an early look at Week 2 NFL DFS? Let's do it!

---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Kyler Murray | ARI @ LV Sun 4:25 | 7500 | 8500 |
It was a little rough for Murray in Week 1 as he was outshined by Patrick Mahomes, but he still managed to work some stuff out and toss a pair of touchdowns along with 193 yards. He also ran five times for 29 yards. Not the greatest of numbers, but with a match-up against the Raiders who coughed up 279 yards and three scores to a Keenan Allen-less Justin Herbert, he should rebound well. The early game total is set at 51.5 right now so we expect to see a fair amount of scoring here. Murray should be able to post strong totals this time around. Game Type: CASH & GPP | ||||
QB | Russell Wilson | CAR @ NYG Sun 1:00 | 7200 | 7500 |
It wasn't the greatest of Week 1 efforts against his former team in Seattle, but Wilson should rebound in his first official home start. Especially against the Texans who still gave up 340 passing yards to Matt Ryan during last week's tie. We can chalk up the Week 1 performance to nerves of going back “home," but Wilson needs to work with Nathaniel Hackett and Justin Outten more to get some flavor into this disgustingly vanilla offense. He's got a boatload of weapons, so chronic dump-offs to Javonte Williams and short-passes to the tight end just aren't going to cut it. Expect to see more in Week 2. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
QB | Derek Carr | TB @ NO Sun 1:00 | 6200 | 7300 |
Another guy people will leave alone because of his lackluster Week 1 performance, but this Cardinals defense is nowhere near as strong as the defense of the Chargers. Similar to the issues they had defending against the Chiefs, it is not going to be easy for them to contain Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller, so as long as Carr is capable of rolling out and keeping his eyes looking downfield, he should be able to put up much better numbers. The offensive line needs to work its asses off this week. That's for sure. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
QB | Trey Lance | LAC @ KC Thu 8:15 | 5700 | 7500 |
OK, so let's see what Lance looks like when he's not quarterbacking in a monsoon. The loss of Elijah Mitchell is a huge bummer, but there is decent depth in this backfield, so we should still have plenty of support from the ground game. Lance is also expected to get George Kittle back this week which is a huge bonus for him. The Seahawks may have technically won their Week 1 match-up, but if the Broncos don't lose fumbles at the goal-line TWICE, they take this game easily. Lance should be able to move the ball well on the Seahawks and with news that Jamaal Adams is out with a torn quad, the middle of the field should be a nice spot to target the pass-catchers. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
QB | Carson Wentz | LAC @ KC Thu 8:15 | 5800 | 7400 |
ADDED 9/15 – It's not so much about what Wentz did last week as it is about the match-up with the Lions who struggled to contain the Eagles last week. Wentz is sure to screw us over one week, but this probably isn't the one. He's got strong weapons in Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and even Jahan Dotson. Washington has Antonio Gibson to lead the backfield and they finally got him involved in the passing attack last week. Heck, you can even add in tight end Logan Thomas. Detroit made solid improvements on the defense during the offseason, but they are still very much a work in progress and Wentz should be able to do some carving this weekend. Game Type: GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
QB | Matt Ryan | IND @ JAC Sun 1:00 | 5500 | 6800 |
The tie against the Texans was atrocious, but you can't just blame it on the kicker. The rest of the offense needs to take some responsibility and they need to show it won't happen again, especially with this match-up against the Jaguars. Jacksonville gave up 305 passing yards and four touchdowns to the Commanders, so we expect Ryan and Co. to do as good, if not better, a job against them. Of course, the Colts also need to eliminate some of the drops. Week 1 was sloppy, for sure, so let's hope they don't hang Matty Ice out to dry this time. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
RB | Jonathan Taylor | IND @ JAC Sun 1:00 | 9900 | 10000 |
ADDED 9/15 – It's an obvious play, but when I don't drop a big name like this into this piece, I get way too many messages asking where Taylor is and why isn't he at the top of my Watch List. So allow me to put my Captain Obvious cape on and say “Duuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!” Against the Jaguars? Oh baby! Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
RB | Saquon Barkley | MIN @ PHI Mon 8:30 | 7300 | 8800 |
What an amazing performance from Barkley last week against the Titans, right? Barkley picked up 164 yards on 18 carries, including a 68-yard run that almost went to the house, and also caught six passes for another 30 yards. In the words of every Giants fan, “THIS was the Barkley we drafted and expected to see over these past two years.” Of course, we're going to pump the brakes a little and try to keep a level head, but with a match-up against a Panthers team that coughed up 217 rushing yards and a touchdown catch to Kareem Hunt, we expect Barkley to have another dominant performance. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Partly cloudy | ||||
RB | Joe Mixon | HOU @ DEN Sun 4:25 | 7200 | 8300 |
Mixon was one of my favorite running backs coming into the season and while he failed to get into the end zone in Week 1, he looked great with 145 all-purpose yards. This week he's facing a Dallas team that has had all the wind taken out of its sails right now. The Cowboys' struggles on offense will likely spill off into the defense as a number of three-and-outs will keep their defense on the field for longer and without proper rest. The Bengals love to use the pass to set up the run, so if Joe Burrow is firing bullets downfield, the Bengals will turn to Mixon to run hard in the second half. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
RB | Javonte Williams | CIN @ DAL Sun 4:25 | 6500 | 7300 |
Let the haters focus on the fact that Melvin Gordon out-carried Williams 12-7 on Monday night. Who cares? Williams still looked like the better back and…oh yeah…11 catches on 12 targets? Come on. Now I certainly don't expect Wilson to become Check-down Charlie and we get this kind of a receiving performance from Williams every week, but it is an element of this offensive scheme that should not be ignored. The carries will pick up as the season rolls on, but we're still going to see Williams remain involved with the passing game. This match-up against the Texans, who spent their Week 1 getting gashed by Jonathan Taylor, should prove to be a favorable one for Williams. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
RB | Antonio Gibson | NE @ PIT Sun 1:00 | 6200 | 7400 |
You have to love it when an entire community gets so down on a guy that no matter what he does, he still doesn't get the respect or recognition he deserves. Well to the Antonio Gibson Sympathizers Club. Not only did he lead the backfield with 14 carries, but he was also ranked second on the Commanders in targets with eight. The team wouldn't throw to him at all over the previous two season, but this week he not only out-targets J.D. McKissic, but also racks up a team-leading 72 receiving yards. We aren't sure when Brian Robinson is coming back, but we do know it won't be Week 2. That works out great since Gibson will get a chance to shine like this again against a Detroit team that gave up 216 yards on the ground with four rushing touchdowns. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
RB | Darrell Henderson | ATL @ LA Sun 4:05 | 5700 | 6200 |
It speaks volumes when a coach says he needs to see more of a sense of urgency from one of his players which is why I expect Henderson to out-touch Cam Akers against a tomato can run defense like that of the Falcons. I do believe in Akers and feel like he should respond to those comments on the field this week, but Henderson is the guy who has earned the opportunity to remain the Rams' lead back. His work in the passing game is secure, so with some extra carries, he should turn a nice profit on his DFS price. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Cooper Kupp | SEA @ SF Sun 4:05 | 9900 | 9700 |
I mean….he's Cooper Kupp. That should be enough for analysis, right? The Falcons coughed up 269 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air last week. Kupp can do that in the first half alone. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
WR | Davante Adams | ATL @ LA Sun 4:05 | 8600 | 8800 |
The Raiders may have lost their Week 1 match-up against the Chargers, but Adams had a spectacular debut and a performance we expect to see a lot more of in the coming weeks. We don't expect 17 targets every week, but 10 catches for 141 yards and a touchdowns seem plausible. The Cardinals had a very tough time containing the Chiefs passing attack last week and it doesn't seem like they're really going to turn things around completely in time for this game against the Raiders. Give me all the Davante Adams I can have and someone fit me for a Fresno State jersey too, please. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Tyreek Hill | MIA @ BAL Sun 1:00 | 7100 | 8000 |
While he failed to get into the end zone, I will happily take 12 targets per game for Hill and hope he can turn them into eight catches for 94 yards on a regular basis. I grew very bullish on the Miami offense after diving deeper into what new head coach Mike McDaniel wanted to do and while the Jets fan inside me weeps, I am rooting for success here in Florida. Tua should continue to improve on his short-passing and he should continue to lead Hill and get the diminutive but speedy receiver running after the catch. The Ravens defense likely softened up last week when the game was well in-hand, but they still gave up over 300 yards and a touchdown through the air to the Jets. The Dolphins should fare much better in Week 2. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Michael Pittman | IND @ JAC Sun 1:00 | 6700 | 7800 |
We watched the Commanders put up 313 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the Jaguars last week and we are much more bullish on the Colts overall. So what does that tell you? Yup. Michael Pittman is primed to have that breakout campaign we've expected and he should be able to continue his on-field rapport with Matt Ryan and build off that nine-catch, 121-yard with a touchdown performance he enjoyed last week against the Texans. The Jaguars secondary is going to seriously struggle to contain him so get your shares now. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
WR | Hollywood Brown | LAC @ KC Thu 8:15 | 6200 | 7400 |
Brown's four catches for 43 yards and a score may not have been all that impressive but it's as good a starting point as any now that he is settling into his new team. All of Arizona is looking to put this Week 1 debacle behind them and Brown is hoping Kyler Murray and the rest of the receiving corps step up to lend him the support he needs. The Raiders secondary struggled to contain Justin Herbert and his weapons last week and we don't expect them to do a complete 180 and be a shutdown secondary anytime soon. Feel good about that Hollywood investment. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
WR | Courtland Sutton | HOU @ DEN Sun 4:25 | 6100 | 6800 |
This is likely to be the ultimate contrarian play as everyone witnessed Jerry Jeudy's Monday Night performance and all they'll be able to see is that image of him on a 67-yard touchdowns catch-and-run. That's why I'm expecting Sutton to get on the same page as his quarterback and dominate in this match-up against the Texans. Should we glean any additional insights into how Wilson views his two top-receivers, and it points us more towards Jeudy, so be it. But unless I see something that really stands out, I'll take Sutton at a much lower ownership percentage. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
WR | DJ Moore | CHI @ GB Sun 8:20 | 5700 | 6200 |
I am not a big Baker Mayfield fan, so it's tough to recommend a Panthers receiver right now, especially when he isn't named Robbie Anderson. But if Anderson didn't get blown up with that 75-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, his numbers would have been well under what Moore provided which, in truth, wasn't all that great. For me, the cream always rises to the top and Moore will soon provide reasons as to why he is the No. 1 in this receiving corps. This Giants defense gave up 266 yards through the air last week and weren't even facing a tough passing attack. They are still a work in progress, so if Baker can keep it together, Moore should provide us with strong fantasy value. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Julio Jones | MIN @ PHI Mon 8:30 | 5500 | 5700 |
ADDED 9/15 – With Chris Godwin expected to miss a few weeks with his hamstring injury, Julio should step in as a go-to option for Tom Brady. We're not expecting the Julio of old, but somewhere in between Mike Evans and Russell Gage. There is definitely a connection between Brady and Julio, so look for that to take center stage in the Superdome this weekend. I'm probably limiting him to just GPP tournaments for now, though so don't get crazy and chuck him into your cash lineups. Game Type: GPP Weather: Partly cloudy | ||||
WR | Tyler Boyd | TEN @ BUF Mon 7:15 | 5400 | 6600 |
ADDED 9/14 – Who says he's limited to being the D/ST Coach? Dan Malin is one of our top analysts here at Fantasy Alarm and when he speaks, we listen. After publishing the Watch List on Tuesday, Malin hit me up with some very wise words and a fantastic suggestion for the Watch List this week. He is what he had to say (and I stand by it 100%): "Boyd's involvement slowly increased when Tee Higgins left with a concussion. He only finished with four catches for 33 yards on seven targets, but he almost had a touchdown that was dropped (keeping in mind he took a hit on that play that drew a flag). In two games last season without Higgins, Boyd had 13 catches on 17 targets for 154 yards and a touchdown. The Bengals say they've received "encouraging" news regarding Higgins' concussion, but I'm still not completely sold he's locked in to play Week 2 against Dallas, which would easily benefit Boyd.." Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Clear | ||||
WR | Brandon Aiyuk | SEA @ SF Sun 4:05 | 5100 | 5700 |
While everyone is fawning all over Deebo Samuel, we're going to think about a pivot to Aiyuk. Remember, when Deebo is doing a lot of running (and given the Elijah Mitchell injury), he doesn't see his usual complement of targets. We're still not 100% sure George Kittle is back, so, to me, that puts Aiyuk into a fantastic spot where he could, in fact, lead the 49ers in targets in Week 2. The Seattle secondary is going to struggle without Jamaal Adams as it is, but with the 49ers deploying three and four-receiver sets to spread the defense, Aiyuk is going to have himself a game across the middle. Bet. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
WR | Drake London | ATL @ LA Sun 4:05 | 5200 | 5600 |
Lets talk volume, shall we? Even with a week filled with injury time, London was not only able to play Sunday, but he also tied for the team lead in targets with seven. He converted five of them into catches and racked up 74 yards. The Rams secondary struggled against the Bills and while yes, the Falcons offense is nowhere near that of the Bills, we did learn a few exploitable shortcomings last Thursday that the Falcons may want to focus on. If playing on DK and want a heavily-targeted bargain play, London's calling. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Curtis Samuel | TEN @ BUF Mon 7:15 | 4600 | 5700 |
ADDED 9/15 – If you caught my Love Letter on the Fantasy Alarm Show on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, then you already know how big a fan I am of Samuel. He's extremely talented, but obviously just needs to stay on the field to be productive. Dude is always hurt, or at least he has been. As a healthy wideout, Samuel is going to get a significant number of targets in this offense and will also be utilized out of the backfield as well. Like I said on the show, Curtis was Deebo before there ever was a Deebo. You also have to love how much OC Scott Turner loves Samuel. He is going to design plays and adjust the scheme to get the most out of Samuel, something he has been dying to do. He did it a little when they were in Carolina, they did it a lot in Week 1 and they're going to keep doing it until they can't. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Clear | ||||
WR | Jakobi Meyers | ARI @ LV Sun 4:25 | 4400 | 5500 |
There was nothing about the Patriots offense last week that screamed “we're making the playoffs this year,” let alone even sniffing the Super Bowl, but if there was a bright spot to take away, it was the team-leading six targets for Meyers. He finally got the touchdown monkey off his back last year and this season, he hoped to prove he is capable of handling the workload of a WR1. We'll have to watch the back of Mac Jones to see if he's playing, but that probably won't have much of an averse effect as Brian Hoyer has proven to be a very capable passer in the NFL. Again, if looking for a bargain-priced guy in a full-point PPR format, Meyers could do well against a Steelers secondary that got worked buy the Bengals who weren't even remotely at their best. Game Type: CASH & GPP | ||||
TE | Mark Andrews | MIA @ BAL Sun 1:00 | 6400 | 7400 |
ADDED 9/15 – The targets were there, the routes run were there and while Andrews didn't find his way into the end zone last week, all the signs are pointing to him right now, even with Miami's strong defense and middle-of-the-field coverage. The Dolphins finished in the middle of the pack in points allowed to the tight ends and that was just against Hunter Henry. Imagine what Andrews will be able to do. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
TE | George Kittle | SEA @ SF Sun 4:05 | 5900 | 6100 |
We're not 100-percent sure yet as to whether Kittle plays in this game or not, but if he is, this is probably a good opportunity to get him at lower than usual ownership as many will be scared off from him getting hurt again. Seattle gave up the fourth-most fantasy points to the tight end position in Week 1 and that's with Albert O dropping what looked like a sure touchdown late in the game. Kittle has the capability of putting up some nice totals, especially with Jamaal Adams out. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
TE | Kyle Pitts | ATL @ LA Sun 4:05 | 5400 | 5900 |
What a garbage game from Pitts in Week 1, right? Everyone hates him now which is exactly why I'm going back to the well this week. The Rams didn't give up anything to the TE position last week, but they did allow almost 50 yards and a touchdown to the Bills slot receivers which is where Pitts is lining up most of the time. Marcus Mariota is going to have to neutralize the pass-rush by getting rid of the ball quickly and that should mean lots of short passes to Pitts this week. He'll be able to pick up the extra yards after the catch and hopefully find himself inside the end zone. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
TE | Dalton Schultz | HOU @ DEN Sun 4:25 | 5200 | 5600 |
Everyone is going to steer clear of the Cowboys this week, and rightfully so…in some cases. But Mike McCarthy and Cooper Rush are likely to play it safe this week and lean on the run and the short, high-percentage passes. That falls right into the wheelhouse of Schultz. The Bengals gave up 75 yards to Pat Freiermuth who was targeted 10 times in Week 1. I expect the Cowboys to run a very similar game plan this week. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
TE | David Njoku | NYJ @ CLE Sun 1:00 | 3700 | 4900 |
Yes, he was a total bust last week. Yawn. I don't care. It was Week 1, people. No need to get your undies in a bundle here. Even without Mark Andrews finding his way into the end zone, the Jets still gave up the most fantasy points to the TE position last week and they are very likely to do it again this week when they sell out to stop the run. Jacoby Brissett should lean a little more heavily on Njoku this week than he does Donovan Peoples-Jones, so look for an increase target share and a nice, cheap price. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
TE | Evan Engram | HOU @ DEN Sun 4:25 | 3600 | 4900 |
Engram falls into that same category as Njoku. His Week 1 effort was less than stellar as he saw just four targets, but given how much better the Colts cover-corners are than Washington's, I expect Trevor Lawrence to work the middle of the field a lot more and utilize his tight end across the middle. The Colts gave up the fifth-most fantasy points to the TE last week when facing the Texans. I think the Jags passing game is actually a little better. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly sunny |
Kyler Murray, QB | ||||
It was a little rough for Murray in Week 1 as he was outshined by Patrick Mahomes, but he still managed to work some stuff out and toss a pair of touchdowns along with 193 yards.
Antonio Gibson, RB | ||||
Cooper Kupp, WR | ||||
I mean….he's Cooper Kupp. That should be enough for analysis, right? The Falcons coughed up 269 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air last week. Kupp can do that in the first half alone. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Mostly cloudy | ||||
Davante Adams, WR | ||||
Tyreek Hill, WR | ||||
Michael Pittman, WR | ||||
Hollywood Brown, WR | ||||
Courtland Sutton, WR | ||||
DJ Moore, WR | ||||
Julio Jones, WR | ||||
Tyler Boyd, WR | ||||
The Bengals say they've received "encouraging" news regarding Higgins' concussion, but I'm still not completely sold he's locked in to play Week 2 against Dallas, which would easily benefit Boyd.." Brandon Aiyuk, WR | ||||
Drake London, WR | ||||
Curtis Samuel, WR | ||||
Jakobi Meyers, WR | ||||
Mark Andrews, TE | ||||
George Kittle, TE | ||||
Kyle Pitts, TE | ||||
Dalton Schultz, TE | ||||
David Njoku, TE | ||||
Evan Engram, TE | ||||
