NFL DFS Week 12 Sunday Night Football Showdown Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles vs Green Bay Packers
GREEN BAY PACKERS @ PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Good afternoon, Family! Are you ready for some Sunday Night Football? What better way to end your week than an NFL DFS Showdown on DraftKings and FanDuel? We have an NFC Interconference battle tonight between two teams that the NFL thought would be a classic game when they made the primetime schedule. The Philadelphia Eagles have held their end of the bargain as they have the best record in the NFL at 9-1 but the Green Bay Packers are currently on the outside looking in on the postseason and have lost six of their last seven to go to 4-7. As 6.5 road underdogs the Packers still lay claim to returning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers but the Eagles have a special player of their own in Jalen Hurts that is building his own magnificent resume. For tonight’s matchup there is a full rundown of players and suggestions below and you can always take a look at our Weekly Match-Up Report and use NFL DFS Tools like our DFS Lineup Generator (a.k.a. the DFS lineup optimizer).
First, from the words of our fearless leader at Fantasy Alarm, Howard Bender:
Now before we begin, for those who are new to the process, please take a moment to understand what exactly you are getting yourself into by playing single-game Showdown Slates. We love to have some skin in the game, for sure, but these slates are, for all intents and purposes, a lottery ticket. Sure, there are times when the chalk hits, and everyone shares in the prizes, but, often, you need to hit on that random dart throw that differentiates your lineup from that of the herd in order to claim the top prize. As a result, we encourage you to play responsibly and not over-invest. Stick to the GPP contests (single-entry preferred), don’t blow your whole bankroll, and understand that, unless you are a max-entry player, you should prioritize having fun.
OK, now let’s get to tonight’s action.

**Please note that players not listed below are not necessarily a complete fade and any player listed can certainly be used as the MVP/Captain. These are merely suggestions for players to use when setting Showdown lineups.
TOP CAPTAIN/MVP
Jalen Hurts- Philadelphia Eagles QB
It all starts with Jalen Hurts when the Eagles are on a Showdown slate especially when they are facing a run defense like the Packers- one of the worst in the game. Hurts ran the ball 16 times for 86 yards plus the game winner against the Colts and we should see more of the same this week. Hurts is the mega popular Cash Captain tonight.
Aaron Jones- Green Bay Packers RB
GPP-only but Jones could nuke this slate against the Eagles defense that is 3rd in DVOA against the pass but just 26th against the run. If the Eagles do not pull away with a big lead Jones could have a big game and will come under-owned due to his high pricing and six dud games on the year. His ownership will also stay low due to the presence of A.J. Dillon who has not had a good season at all.
Allen Lazard- Green Bay Packers WR
Lazard is coming off a five catch for 57-yard game in the Packers loss to Tennessee. He is still Rodgers’ favorite and ‘go-to” wideout plus rookie Christian Watson is so touchdown dependent (five touchdowns in last two weeks). With double-digit target games in two of his last three Lazard makes for a nice contrarian GPP captain over what should be the more popular Watson.
Miles Sanders- Philadelphia Eagles
Bounce back game for Sanders incoming. He doesn’t get passing work, but Sanders faces a Packers defense is 12th against the pass defense but just 29th against opposing run games, so he could be in line for a high ceiling game here if he gets the work and doesn’t get vultured by Hurts.
UTILITY
Aaron Rodgers- Green Bay Packers QB
Due to the Eagles defensive strength ARod is only a Utility play as the NFL MVP for the last two years has struggled with new wideouts Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. In Week 10 he smashed Dallas, but he has rarely hit 20 DK fantasy points this season. On a positive note, it appears his thumb is healing, and we may see Rodgers in more dropbacks as they should be playing from behind as a touchdown underdog.
Devonta Smith- Philadelphia Eagles WR
Smith has led the Eagles in targets the last two games and comes in with a nice discount from AJ Brown. Should be chalky due to price but still a solid play.
AJ Brown- Philadelphia Eagles WR
Brown has been quiet since his Week 8 monster performance against the Steelers where he caught 11 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns (43 DKFP). Since then, he has only caught 10 passes in three games which may keep ownership down a bit on his salary which is second highest on the slate.
Jake Elliot- Philadelphia Eagles K
A kicker usually finds his way into my cash lineup on Showdowns but both Elliot and the Eagles Mason Crosby are both more of a boom-or bust play tonight. I would lean towards the home favorite and roll with Elliot who has averaged 3.3 extra-point conversions in the last four games. Field goals are harder to come by since the Eagles tend to score a touchdown when they get into the red zone but it’s still primetime and kickers seem to see more action than normal.
VALUE
Quez Watkins- Philadelphia Eagles
It’s tough for the talented Watkins to get ahead with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in the same receivers room but he is coming off a touchdown game against the Colts and had four catches for 80 yards in the Week 10 game against Washington. GPP only but with all the attention on Brown and Smith, Watkins could come up with a big play tonight.
Randall Cobb- Green Bay Packers WR
Even with Christian Watson’s emergence, Cobb is still probably Rodgers’ most reliable receiver and he gets a much easier matchup against Josiah Scott than Watson who must deal with Darius Slay and James Bradberry. Cobb stepped right back in and was productive last week in his return from a four-game absence as he led the team in receptions (six) and yards (73).
Jack Stoll- Philadelphia Eagles TE
Stoll ran a route on 73% of dropbacks without Dallas Goedert last week. That was third most on the team behind DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. Stoll isn’t going to explode tonight but he has a chance of scoring a touchdown as him and Goedert together have combined for seven red-zone targets this season from the tight end position, second on the team to A.J. Brown.
