NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers and OT D.J. Humphries do not have a deal in place.
Humphries reported on his social media account a few weeks ago that he had agreed to a contract with the 49ers, but that does not appear to be the case. At least for now. Humphries tore his ACL at the end of the 2023 season and was released by the Cardinals. He spent most of the 2024 season rehabbing before signing with the Chiefs. He started at left tackle in Week 14 before hurting his hamstring and missing the rest of the season. He will continue to search for another opportunity.
White sox claimed INF Vinny Capra off waivers from the Brewers.
Capra went 5-for-54 before being designated for assignment by the Brewers. The White Sox will give the 28-year-old infielder a look, but fantasy managers should not do the same.
Drake Baldwin drove in a run while going 3-for-4 against the Nationals on Thursday.
Got to love the Drake. Baldwin singled up the middle to make it 3-0 in the fifth inning. The three knocks ups his average to .360 on the season, and his .573 slugging percentage shows he’s not just dinking and dunking the baseball. Baldwin’s a tough play in fantasy because of Sean Murphy, but the offensive upside is considerable.
CJ Abrams went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored and a stolen base in a loss to Atlanta on Thursday.
Abrams hit his second homer of the series against Atlanta, and this one had an exit velocity of 100.7 mph off David Lee. The 24-year-old also scored on an error from Austin Riley. Abrams is now hitting an outstanding .317/.379/.548 with six homers and nine stolen bases over the first 45 games of 2025.
Raisel Iglesias worked a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Nationals on Thuesday.
AJ Smith-Shawver held the Nationals to two hits and one unearned run to pick up a win in a 5-2 victory for Atlanta on Thursday.
Smith-Shawver was outstanding Thursday afternoon, as he generated six strikeouts that came from a whopping 17 swings and misses from his 86 pitches. He blanked the Nats for the first five, but an error from Austin Riley allowed a run to score in the sixth. It’s yet another impressive outing for Smith-Shawver in the month of May, and he’s allowed just one earned run in the month over 19 2/3 innings, giving him a 0.47 ERA in that timeframe. He should be in fantasy lineups for a rematch with the Nationals on Wednesday.
