Kyle Gibson allowed three runs on five hits in four innings in a no-decision against the Royals.
Gibson struck out three and walked one while registering a 27 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. Gibson missed a few bats with each of his little-used sweeper and curve, but he also allowed an average exit velocity of over 94 mph. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues next week, even against the Angels.
Emmanuel Clase allowed one run (none earned) on one hit in one inning while securing a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
It was Clase’s seventh save of the season, and he’s now firmly back in the closer’s role. Clase’s one run was unearned because he bobbled a slow comebacker off the bat of Andres Gimenez and then threw it into right field. Gimenez would later come around to score on a sac fly by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. On the night, Clase got five whiffs on 13 swings and threw 16 of his 25 pitches for strikes. It was a solid overall performance.
Chandler Simpson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base against the Yankees on Sunday.
Jonathan Aranda went 3-for-4 with two walks, a solo home run and three RBI against the Yankees on Sunday.
Andrew Benintendi was removed from Sunday’s game against the Astros due to tightness in his left calf.
The 30-year-old outfielder is considered day-to-day. He suffered the injury while running the bases in the fifth inning on Sunday, then remained in the game for another inning defensively before the decision was made to sit him down. It doesn’t sound like anything that should require an extended absence, but be sure to pay attention to his status on Monday just to be sure.
Pete Fairbanks tossed a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run lead and earn the save against the Yankees on Sunday.
