NFL Injury Report 2024 - Fantasy Football Week 8: Jayden Daniels & More

How in the world are we already in Week 8 of the NFL season? This is the NFL Week 8 Injury Report. That’s insane! Nevertheless, that’s where we are.
NFL Injury Report For Week 8: Fantasy Football Injuries
We have some massive fantasy football injuries we’re dealing with as the likes of Jayden Daniels, DK Metcalf, and Brandon Aiyuk were banged up.
Let’s dive into everything else that happened in Week 8 and what injuries we’re dealing with and what injuries we’ll see some players return from.
NFL Week 8 Injury Report: Quarterbacks
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update - Concussion
It’s official. After being removed from the injured list and concussion protocol, Tua Tagovailoa will return to action and be the Dolphins starting quarterback in Week 8.
Jayden Daniels Injury Update - Ribs
After not practicing any other day this week, he was back on the practice field on Friday and head coach Dan Quinn said they pushed Daniels to see what he could do. They’re giving it 48 hours before making any sort of commitment to his gameday status.
Derek Carr Injury Update - Oblique
After not practicing this week, the Saints have officially listed quarterback Derek Carr as doubtful for Week 8.
Anthony Dalton Injury Update - Thumb
Andy Dalton and his family were involved in a car accident earlier in the week and thankfully nobody was seriously injured. That said, Dalton hurt his thumb and has been listed as doubtful for Week 8. Bryce Young will be the starting quarterback and Jack Plummer will be his backup
NFL Week 8 Injury Report: Running Backs
Christian McCaffrey Injury Update - Achilles
We’ve yet to see Christian McCaffrey this year despite there not being much of an issue prior to the season, or so we thought. McCaffrey’s reportedly close to a return as it’s now been reported by Ian Rapoport that he’s eyeing a Week 10 return after the teams Week 9 bye.
Jonathan Taylor Injury Update - Ankle
After logging a full week of practice, Jonathan Taylor will return to action in Week 8 after the Colts fully removed him from their injury report.
Travis Etienne Injury Update - Hamstring
The Jaguars starting running back Travis Etienne heads into Week 8 listed as questionable on the team’s injury report. He logged limited practices on three straight days and head coach Doug Pederson called him a game-time decision. If he sits again, Tank Bigsby season is back on.
Bucky Irving Injury Update - Toe
After initial reports circulated early in the week that Bucky Irving wasn’t going to play, his status has taken a turn for the better. Everything is now pointing towards Irving playing unless something drastic happens before Sunday. Irving should be part of the three-headed rushing attack Tampa Bay is deploying.
Jonathan Brooks Injury Update - Knee
Things are starting to look really grim for Jonathan Brooks’ 2024, but there is still time. His debut doesn’t look like it’s coming in Week 8 however as Brooks is listed as doubtful.
NFL Week 8 Injury Report: Wide Receivers
Tyreek Hill Injury Update - Foot
Hill started the week off the injury report, was downgraded to limited on Thursday, and flat out didn’t practice on Friday. The Dolphins have said they believe Hill is going to be good, but not practicing on Friday is something to monitor heading into the weekend.
DK Metcalf Injury Update - Knee
After leaving in Week 7, the Seahawks listed DK Metcalf as week-to-week, so it’s no surprise after not practicing all week that Metcalf has officially been listed as doubtful in Week 8.
Brandon Aiyuk Injury Update - Knee
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL, Brandon Aiyuk has a torn ACL and MCL and his 2024 season is officially over.
Chris Olave Injury Update - Concussion
As we head into Week 8, Chris Olave will be out there for the Saints as he’s cleared concussion protocol.
JuJu Smith-Schuster Injury Update - Hamstring
After an early Week 7 exit for JuJu Smith-Schuster, head coach Andy Reid told told 92.3 ESPN Wichita that Smith-Schuster is out for Week 8 as well but wouldn’t expand upon how serious the injury is.
Diontae Johnson Injury Update - Oblique
Although it’s listed as a rib injury, Diontae Johnson himself said it’s his oblique that’s bothering him. He told the media, however, that he would be able to play through it. With the trade deadline coming up, it makes you wonder.
Adam Thielen Injury Update - Hamstring
Adam Thielen, after not practicing this week has been ruled out of the Panthers Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. That means Bryce Young will be returning to the starting lineup without both Diontae Johnson and Thielen. OOF.
Tee Higgins Injury Update - Quad
He wasn’t anywhere near the injury report until Friday where he showed up with a quad injury. Because of the quad injury he’s officially listed as questionable heading into Week 8.
Calvin Ridley Injury Update - Foot
If you were worried about Calvin Ridley’s availability in Week 8 just take a breath. After not practicing on Wednesday or Thursday, Ridley returned to practice in full on Friday and is go to go for Sunday. Tennessee’s new WR1 with DeAndre Hopkins out of town shed his foot ailment.
Jakobi Meyers Injury Update - Ankle
After logging a full practice on Friday, Jakobi Meyers is listed as questionable but is expected to play in Week 8. Meyers is dealing with a sprained ankle and is the WR1 in Las Vegas now that Davante Adams was traded.
Allen Lazard Injury Update - Chest
Lazard didn’t practice all week and has officially been listed as doubtful. If he doesn’t play, which is what’s the likely scenario, Mike Williams will operate as the Jets’ third receiver.
Jauan Jennings Injury Update - Hip
It’s official; Jauan Jennings is OUT for the 49ers in Week 8 with a hip injury. He’ll have extended time to get his hip right with a Week 9 bye.
Ladd McConkey Injury Update - Hip
After starting the week off on a bad foot, Ladd McConkey returned to practice on Friday on a limited basis. He’s listed as questionable but has played through this injury each of the past couple of weeks.
Quentin Johnston Injury Update - Ankle
Like McConkey above, Quentin Johnston didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday but got back on Friday with limited participation. Johnston gave himself a chance at playing this week.
Curtis Samuel Injury Update - Shoulder
This is not only going to keep Samuel out for Week 8, but head coach Sean McDermott told the media it’s going to be a multi-week absence. That said, it won’t be something he expects Samuel to hit IL for.
NFL Week 8 Injury Report: Tight Ends
T.J. Hockenson Injury Update - Knee
We’ve yet to see T.J. Hockenson participate in practice at anything higher than on a limited basis and on the estimated practice report on Monday that was the same thing. We’ll see when they’re actually out on the field if Hockenson’s able to get out there in full capacity.
Dallas Goedert Injury Update - Hamstring
Dallas Goedert has been ruled out for Week 8 due to the same hamstring injury that’s now kept him out for three games.
Taysom Hill Injury Update - Rib
After finishing the week with nothing but full practices, Taysom Hill is completely off the injury report and will play in Week 8.
Dawson Knox Injury Update - Ankle
Dawson Knox is not listed on the injury report in Week 8 and will be a full go for the Bills.
Player News
Patriots signed RB Trayveon Williams, formerly of the Bengals.
Henderson was passed on the Cincinnati depth chart by Chase Brown last year and the team even traded for Khalil Herbert midseason. Despite having no role on offense, Williams was active for all 17 games as a special teamer. He will likely hold a similar role in New England if he cracks the team’s 53-man roster.
Free agent RB Jordan Mims worked out for the Patriots.
The Pats also worked out former Bengals running back Trayveon Williams. Mims ran 20 times for 70 yards in 2024 while adding 12 catches for 71 yards through the air. He also got some run on special teams. The Patriots are looking for some extra depth at running back, but there isn’t room for another fantasy-relevant option behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
Jaguars signed TE Quintin Morris, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.
Morris is purely a blocking tight end. He caught just 15 passes during his three years with the Bills, though he did manage to find the end zone three times. Morris will back up Brenton Strange in Jacksonville.
Ravens signed Derrick Henry to a two-year, $30 million contract extension.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Henry is the first running back over the age of 30 to make $15 million per year. Henry hit the open market at the peak of the “running backs don’t matter” discourse and signed a measly two-year, $16 million deal with the Ravens last offseason. He spent the 2025 season stuffing nerds in lockers with 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns on 325 attempts. The monstrous season more than earned him a raise and the Ravens knew the assignment. Rapoport noted that Henry wants to finish his career in Baltimore and the extension will give him the opportunity to do so.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports Packers C Elgton Jenkins is skipping offseason workouts for contract reasons.
Jenkins is being moved to center ahead of the 2025 season. He is a left guard by trade but has also spent time at both tackle spots during his six years in Green Bay. The Packers signed him to a four-year, $68 million extension in 2022 that runs through 2026. The deal initially made him a highly-paid guard. It now has him as one of the league’s most expensive centers. The Packers could save $20 million by cutting Jenkins next offseason, something they would likely do unless Jenkins is immediately one of the league’s best centers. Jenkins, in turn, is almost certainly looking to up his guarantees on the final two years of the contract. Though, as Demovsky points out, the Packers rarely adjust contracts this far from their expiration, Jenkins could be the exception to the rule.
Dak Prescott said George Pickens is “more than a 50-50 catcher.”
Prescott in a Wednesday morning radio interview was effusive in his praise of Pickens, who was traded last week from the Steelers to Dallas in exchange for draft compensation. “You put the ball anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands,” Prescott said of Pickens. “He’s more than a 50-50 catcher. ... I’m excited for him. I know that we need some help at that position.” Pickens, 24, has 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns over three NFL seasons and is widely expected to see more single coverage in Dallas than he did as the unquestioned No. 1 wideout in Pittsburgh. Opposing coverage units won’t be able to shade safeties toward his side of the field with CeeDee Lamb threatening the middle of the field. Pickens shapes up as a volatile WR2/3 in 2025.
