Deshaun Watson Suspension Update
On a more serious note, Roger Goodell and the NFL had some things to say to reporters this week – none of which was good for Deshaun Watson. They essentially reiterated that they believe Watson “committed multiple violations” with “egregious” and “predatory behavior” based on the evidence they have seen. Goodell and the NFL still believe that Watson should be subject to a suspension that could last the entire season and are committing to that with the appeal.
Steelers Looking to Reduce Workload for Najee Harris
There were some rumblings about this earlier in the season, some of it from Harris himself. But now some highly specific comments have come out from running back coach Eddie Faulkner that got down into the minutia of it. Whether via analytics, team doctors, or some other equation, it seems the Pittsburgh Steelers' RB coach has “figured out” that Najee Harris needs to be off the field for seven extra snaps per game compared to 2021. We don’t like hearing that for fantasy football purposes, but we have to keep in mind that Najee already had the biggest workload of any running back. So, even a slightly reduced workload is likely to keep Smith within the upper echelon of running back usage.
Jamaal Williams is All of Us on Hard Knocks
If this speech by Jamaal Williams doesn’t get you FIRED up for some football, I don’t know what will.
It’s a blessing that we get to watch Williams and the Detroit Lions on HBO’s Hard Knocks this year. Williams is a player who once compared himself to Spongebob Squarepants and Olaf (from Frozen) when playing in inclement weather conditions. In the past, the running back has also gone viral for comparing himself to an ex-girlfriend with his switch from Green Bay to Detroit and his fondness for anime. This guy is an absolute gem.
Soreness for Matthew Stafford & Kyler Murray
In a previous Training Camp report, we noted that Matthew Stafford was dealing with elbow tendonitis. Though he returned to Los Angeles Rams practice on a limited basis, some still believe this elbow issue could present a long-term problem. Now, on top of that, Kyler Murray is reportedly dealing with wrist soreness. Murray might not have played much in the preseason anyway but, with this issue, reporters are claiming that he's now certain to stay out of every exhibition match for the Arizona Cardinals.
NFL Injuries: Incoming and Outgoing
- Mekhi Becton suffered an avulsion fracture of the right knee cap. He’s likely out for the season. Tough break for the New York Jets offensive line.
- Jakeem Grant was slated to be the return man for both punts and kicks for the Cleveland Browns, but it has been confirmed that he tore his Achilles in camp yesterday. Grant is now out for the season.
- Darren Waller has not practiced since July 30th. There is no definitive report on what the injury is for the Las Vegas Raiders tight end. Last season, he missed games with an ankle injury and IT band issues.
- Christian Kirk rolled his ankle and left practice. The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver is expected to be fine, but he was working off to the side as of Wednesday morning.
- Russell Gage pulled his hamstring running a route. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver is expected to be day-to-day.
NFL Trade Alert! Houston Texans Acquire Adam Shaheen
Dolphins tight end Adam Shaheen was traded to the Houston Texans for a 6th-round pick. The primary blocking tight end is more of a threat to guys like Antony Auclair than he is to pass-catchers, but it seems to solidify the Texans' commitment to two-tight end sets. The initial depth chart Houston released listed two tight ends on the first line – Pharoah Brown and Brevin Jordan.

Player News
Bills signed WR Elijah Moore, formerly of the Browns, to a one-year contract.
Cleveland placed the rarely-used free agent tender on Moore earlier this week, allowing the Browns to potentially net a compensatory pick if he signed elsewhere. Moore’s visit with the Bills proved fruitful and he will now play for “up to” $5 million. Moore struggled to find his footing after the Jets traded him to Cleveland and he went for a measly 538 yards in 2024. He will now get another chance to reset things in Buffalo, but Moore is far from a guarantee for playing time with the Bills.
Patriots did not exercise the OL Cole Strange’s fifth-year team option for 2026.
The move, or lack thereof, doesn’t come as a surprise. Strange was a stunning first-round selection by Bill Belichick in 2022, with Sean McVay saying he thought the Rams would have a shot at landing Strange with the 104th pick. Strange suffered a torn patellar tendon late in the 2023 season that cost him most of 2024. A left guard by trade, Strange made two starts at center last year. A replacement-level player at best, Strange enters his contract year in need of a breakout season.
Cowboys waived RB Malik Davis.
Clearing roster space for their rookie class, the Cowboys also parted ways with OG Jack Anderson, LB Brock Mogensen, and OT Earl Bostick Jr. Davis spent 2024 on the Cowboys’ practice squad and signed a reserve/futures contract with them at the end of the season. He is a long-shot to make an NFL roster this year.
Jets QB Jordan Travis retired from the NFL after one season.
Travis suffered a catastrophic ankle injury late in his final season at Florida State in 2023. The Jets took a shot on him in the fifth round of the draft, but Travis suffered a setback in his recovery and did not play as a rookie. In his statement via the team, Travis said his leg never responded the way he had hoped and the medical staff advised him to return. It’s a sad ending for a player who had a future in the NFL before his tragic injury.
Packers have exercised DT Devonte Wyatt’s fifth-year team option for 2026.
The 27-year-old, who was the 28th overall pick in 2022, has played in 47 games in three seasons with the Packers, recording 12.5 sacks, including five in 2024. Wyatt, who will make $13.9 million in 2026 (per OverTheCap), was the Packers’ highest-graded defensive lineman last season, per PFF.
Ravens will not exercise the fifth-year option on C Tyler Linderbaum.
The two-time Pro Bowler would have made $23.4 million if his option was picked up. “It is our intention for (Linderbaum) to remain a Baltimore Raven long term,” said team EVP and general manger Eric DeCosta on Wednesday. “I’ll let my agent handle that,” Linderbaum said about his contract on April 21. “I’m just focusing on becoming as good of a football player as I can be for this team. [I’m] coming in here every day and putting my best foot forward. Let all the other things take care of itself.” Linderbaum, who was the 25th overall pick in 2022, has started in all 49 games played with the Ravens since his arrival.
