ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Suns have acquired the No. 36 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft from the Nets in exchange for two future second-round picks.
The Suns had an eventful first night of the draft as they acquired Mark Williams from the Hornets in a trade and selected Khaman Maluach. The second night of the draft is shaping up to be busy for the Suns as well as the team now controls picks 36, 52 and 59. It’s already clear the team will have a new look next year with Williams and Maluach as well as Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, who they acquired from the Rockets in the trade for Kevin Durant.
Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reported the Lakers are targeting Creighton University center Ryan Kalkbrenner.
The Lakers moved up 10 spots from pick No. 55 to pick No. 45 in a trade with the Bulls Thursday afternoon. While Kalkbrenner would still have to fall to pick No. 45 unless the Lakers trade up again, a center makes sense as a potential target for the Lakers. The team traded away Anthony Davis in the Luke Doncic trade and then had a trade in place for Mark Williams before he failed his physical. The Lakers could certainly use more of a presence on the interior and Kalkbrenner would fit there.
The Athletic’s Dan Woike reports Austin Reaves declined a max contract extension offer from the Lakers earlier this week.
The Lakers offered Reaves a four-year, $89.2 million extension, which is the most they can offer him at this time. Reaves declined, which isn’t surprising as he’s in position to bet on himself and potentially make a lot more money next offseason. Reaves could hit free agency next summer and be eligible for a five-year, $246.7 million max deal from the Lakers or a four-year, $182.9 million max deal from any other team. He appears content to play out his current contract and test free agency next offseason.

The Lakers notably didn’t have a selection in the first round of the NBA Draft. Now while it’s unclear exactly who the team is targeting in the second round, the Lakers must have someone in mind to move up 10 spots. It’s also possible the Lakers could make another trade to move up if they’re targeting a player projected to go early in the second round.
Joel Embiid (knee) is “very engaged” in his rehab and is on track to be ready to go just before the start of training camp, according to 76ers lead executive Daryl Morey.
While the NBA Draft was the focus on Wednesday, with Philadelphia selecting Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe third overall, Morey also had to answer questions regarding Embiid. After undergoing left knee surgery in April, just before the end of the regular season, there were questions regarding the 2023 MVP’s availability for the start of the 2025-26 season. According to Morey, Embiid is on track to be good to go around the time that training camp begins in late September. His injury history will give many fantasy managers pause at draft time, but a healthy Embiid can be one of the best players in the NBA and fantasy basketball.
Clippers selected Yanic Konan Niederhauser with the No. 30 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Konan Niederhauser spent two years at Northern Illinois before transferring to Penn State, where he enjoyed a productive 2024-25 campaign. He made some history on Wednesday, becoming the first first-round pick in Penn State program history. The 6'11, 243-pound Swiss big man averaged 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots, showing off his athletic prowess and his elite abilities to block shots, run the floor in transition and elevate for lobs. He’ll need to improve his range on offense if he hopes to make a bigger impact on that end of the floor at the next level. While the Clippers have an excellent starting center in Ivica Zubac, there’s a need for depth behind him. Adding Niederhauser to the fold will help in that regard, but he’s unlikely to impact fantasy basketball as a rookie significantly.
