The Chicago Bulls host the Dallas Mavericks and these are two teams going in opposite directions. The Bulls have won four in a row, and eight of the last ten games. They are climbing up the play-in rankings and have a real opportunity to make the playoffs. They are currently 1.5 games behind the eighth place Orlando Magic.

The Dallas Mavericks are currently in tenth place in the Western Conference. Only nine months ago, they were in the NBA Finals. It is one the worst collapses of any sports franchise, and as long as they keep losing they should earn a decent draft pick. Although they are starting to return to health, they are not motivated to go to the play-in and lose.

Playing after an emotional win, like the Bulls most recent match, can have a ‘hungover’ feeling, but the Bulls are simply a different team then they were earlier this season. The removal of Zach Lavine, and Lonzo Ball moving out of the picture due to constant injury, has allowed Coby White and Josh Giddey to display their full skill set.

White has always been a lethal scorer, he is the all-time leading North Carolina high school scorer with 3,573 points. He has been scoring consistently since the trade of Lavine, and is the team’s first scoring option. White is averaging 20.4 points per game this season, but has scored over his average in ten straight matches. The same could be said for his minutes, he averages 33.4 minutes per game but has played over his average in nine straight matches. And in the tenth game he played 33 minutes.

Giddey has been the Bulls best rebounder, oftentimes out pacing starting center, Nikola Vucevic. He too is out playing his per game averages; 30.0 minutes, 14.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.0 assists. He is a triple double threat most nights, and has recorded one in three of his last six matches. Most importantly he is a mismatch regardless of who the opposing perimeter defender is.

Both took a little longer to develop than most teams have patience for, but they are currently a top five backcourt tandem. The Bulls average 117.3 points per game, and in their last five games they have scored; 119, 129, 146, 128, 121. Dallas allows 115.1 points per game and Chicago is looking to keep their momentum rolling.
