Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth as the Padres edged the Yankees 4-3 on Monday.

The Padres got all of their runs in the eighth, with Manny Machado delivering a two-run double before Bogaerts stepped to the plate. Bogaerts’ big hit gave him five RBI in two days after he had just eight through 32 games. The Padres badly need him to be a run producer, as they offer very little offense behind him in the bottom half of their lineup.

Nick Pivetta yielded three runs — two earned — in five innings Monday in a no-decision against the Yankees.

A better effort than most of Pivetta’s starts against the Bombers, but he’s still just 1-4 with a 6.66 ERA in nine starts and five relief appearances versus his former AL East rival. Pivetta has a 2.01 ERA this year, but since he’s starting in Coors Field next time out, mixed leaguers might have better options.

Robert Suarez cruised through the ninth against the Yankees on Monday, striking out two for his 14th save.

Suarez has still allowed just one run through 16 innings. He’s surrendered hits in only three of his 16 appearances.

Carlos Rodón tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday against the Padres.

Rodón allowed just three hits, one of which came on an infield popup that he couldn’t find and no one else could get to. It should have been a fourth straight win for him, but the Yankees went on to blow a 3-0 lead in the eighth. Rodón has allowed a total of two earned runs in his last four starts, and his ERA is down to 2.96. He’ll likely face the A’s next time out.

Devin Williams was charged with three runs in two-thirds of an inning while working the eighth against the Padres on Monday.

Williams appears to be getting most of the blame for the loss tonight, even though it was Luke Weaver on the mound when all of the runs scored. Brought in with a 3-0 lead in the eighth, Williams gave up a soft single in between a pair of walks before being pulled with the bases loaded and two outs. Weaver then entered and gave up two hits to take the blown save and the loss. Williams said afterwards that that wet mound was an issue for him, though obviously everyone else had to deal with that, too. In the end, tonight was probably a wash for both Williams and Weaver. Williams entered the game having pitched three scoreless innings since getting pulled from the closer’s role. This still isn’t the time to go dropping him in fantasy leagues.

J.P. Crawford went 2-for-5 and scored a run in a loss to the Athletics on Monday in extra innings.

Crawford’s single in the first inning extended his hitting streak to 13. He would single again, and he also reached via walk twice for a four-reach contest. Crawford has been spectacular with the bat over the last few weeks, and now has his slash up to an impressive .294/.417/.404 over 34 games.
