Kwik Trip 250 Preview
This weekend brings with it fireworks and hot dogs and all things Fourth of July. That also means that we have a patriotic venue for this weekend’s Kwik Trip 250 — Road America. The Wisconsin road track is hosting it’s second NASCAR Cup Series race in as many years on the same holiday weekend it hosted last year’s race.
Kwik Trip 250 Schedule
With this being July Fourth weekend, we’re in for a two-day schedule at Road America. Remember, the coverage has changed to NBC and their networks with this weekend being all on USA Network.
Friday, July 1: Xfinity Series Practice and Qualifying 5:30 pm ET
Saturday, July 2: Cup Series Practice and Qualifying 11:30 am ET (TV starts at noon)
Saturday, July 2: Xfinity Series Henry 180 2:30 pm ET
Sunday, July 3: Cup Series Kwik Trip 250 3:00 pm ET
Weather For Elkhart Lake
This time of year can be a crapshoot for weather, as we saw with the rain delay in Nashville last Sunday. However, for this weekend in Wisconsin, things are looking clear. Like, really clear. The National Weather Service forecast for Elkhart Lake and Road America this weekend is for temps in the low-80s and almost no chance of precipitation in the forecast. That’s what we call prime racing weather in the heartland!
Road America Track Layout
The longest road course on the schedule, Road America is just over four miles a lap. In that four-mile lap, there are 14 turns and quite a lot of elevation change as well. The front straight has the start/finish line cresting a hill as the approach to Turn 1 is down hill while the run up to the start/finish line is uphill out of Turn 14. It has a great combination of high-speed and low-speed corners as well and is widely regarded as the best road course layout in the country. There’s just not many, if any, terrain layouts like Road America anymore. Check out the picture below to see the layout and direction of the track.
