Jordan Westburg (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Yankees.
Westburg will miss his second straight contest due to ongoing hamstring soreness that cropped up during the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Tigers. The 26-year-old infielder has been on fire lately, hitting .310 (9-for-29) with one homer and two RBI over his last seven games. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías at the hot corner on Monday night in his absence.
Titans beat writer Turron Davenport said “they’re probably not picking up the fifth-year option” for Treylon Burks.
This news comes as a surprise to nobody. While it’s worth noting that nothing has been made official at this time, Burks’ time with the Titans has been filled with disappointing production across 27 games, (53-699-1) and injuries. According to Davenport, Burks is still going through rehab to recover from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 5 last season. The former No. 18 overall pick is entering a legitimate prove-it year, but may struggled to see the field even if healthy. In addition to competing with Calvin Ridley, Burks will also be going up against veteran Van Jefferson and rookie receivers Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor, who they used fourth-round picks on last weekend.
Ben Rice is absent from the Yankees lineup for Monday’s game against the Orioles.
If it’s a routine day off, it’s his first against a right-hander this season. Rice has slowed down in recent days, going 3-for-25 with a homer and 10 strikeouts in his last eight games. The Yankees have Trent Grisham in the outfield and Jasson Domínguez at DH tonight, It’s just the second time Domínguez has DH’d this year.
NBA reporter Chris B. Haynes reports that Damian Lillard has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles.
Brutal. Lillard’s 2024-25 season is officially over, and there’s a chance he misses all of next season due to the timing of the injury. It’s unclear what Lillard’s extended absence will mean for fantasy owners in 2025-26, as the Bucks will likely address PG depth in the offseason.
Browns will not exercise Kenny Pickett’s fifth-year option.
Well, yeah, the idea of paying Kenny Pickett $22.1 million to play quarterback in 2026 is laughable. Pickett is now part of a four-headed battle in training camp between himself, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and Joe Flacco to make the Browns. We’ll see if Pickett makes the roster, but it may be more about how well the rookies play than anything he does in camp or the preseason.
Rockies recalled RHP Juan Mejia from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Mejia made his major league debut as a 27th man in a doubleheader last week, allowing an unearned run in an inning of work. The 24-year-old reliever had a 5.40 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for Albuquerque.
