Nationals signed RHP Adrian Sampson to a minor league contract.
Sampson hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2022 season when he made 21 appearances (19 starts) for the Cubs. The 33-year-old journeyman righty has made 72 appearances (44 starts) in the big leagues dating back to 2016. He spent all of last season at Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers’ system. He’ll provide the Nationals with some extra organizational pitching depth at Triple-A Rochester.
Nationals signed RHP Parker Dunshee to a minor league contract.
Dunshee heads to Triple-A Rochester as extra organizational depth for the Nationals after making one relief appearance last year for the Braves. The 30-year-old journeyman made a pair of appearances earlier this year in the independent Mexican League, but that’s pretty much it for affiliated ball.
Zach Eflin (lat) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
Eflin fired four scoreless innings on Sunday in a minor league rehab start for High-A Aberdeen and could potentially be cleared to rejoin Baltimore’s rotation following his next throwing session. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April recovering from a low-grad lat strain.
Mookie Betts is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Marlins.
It’s a scheduled off day for Betts, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. It’ll be veteran Miguel Rojas taking over at shortstop with Hyeseong Kim at second base.
Landon Knack will start on Wednesday against the Marlins.
It’s a tasty matchup at pitcher-friendly loanDepot park, but there’s no scenario where fantasy managers should trust Knack as a streaming option when his ERA (7.27) through three appearances (two starts) in the majors this season resembles the model number of a Boeing jetliner. He’ll presumably head back to Triple-A Oklahoma City after Wednesday’s spot start in Miami.
Dodgers recalled OF James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Fantasy managers were probably hoping to see top prospect Dalton Rushing get his first shot in the majors, but the Dodgers are going to give Outman another crack with star Teoscar Hernández facing a multi-week absence with a left groin strain. The 27-year-old’s power/speed combo potential makes him interesting for fantasy purposes, but he’s struck out nearly 33 percent of the time in 208 games in the majors dating back to 2022, which puts a lid on his realistic ceiling.
