Shohei Ohtani is expected to be activated off the paternity list before Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
Ohtani will have new dad strength after being out while his wife gave birth to their first child. Eddie Rosario was added from Triple-A to replace Ohtani, and it seems relatively likely he’ll be the corresponding move to get Ohtani back on the roster.
Adolis García went 1-for-4 with the walk-off two-run homer to power the Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.
García stepped into the box with one runner on base and no outs, down by one run in the bottom of the ninth. He came through for the Rangers in a big way, launching a walk-off, two-run blast off Kirby Yates to end the game. It was his fourth home run of the season. The 32-year-old outfielder is hitting .229/.304/.471 with nine RBI and four steals across 79 plate appearances.
Kyle Higashioka went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Higashioka put the Rangers on the board against Roki Sasaki with a two-run blast in the third inning for his first home run of the season. He later added a base hit in the fifth. The two hits and home run bring the 34-year-old’s slash line to .278/.316/.444 with five RBI over 38 plate appearances.
Freddie Freeman went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Rangers on Saturday.
Freeman went yard for the second time in three games, this time taking Nathan Eovaldi deep for a two-run blast to put the Dodgers on the board in the fourth inning. The 35-year-old first baseman looks no worse for wear despite battling through ankle issues, hitting .297/.381/.703 with four homers and eight RBI across 42 plate appearances.
Kirby Yates allowed two runs in the ninth inning to take the loss against the Rangers on Saturday.
With Tanner Scott unavailable after pitching in three of the last five days and Blake Treinen on the injured list, Yates got the save chance in the ninth inning with a one-run lead. He gave up a double to Josh Smith before Adolis García took him deep for a walk-off two-run homer.
X-rays returned negative on Ben Rice’s left elbow.
Rice was diagnosed with bruise on his left elbow, and the imaging revealed no structural damage. The 26-year-old could get a day off Sunday against the Rays, but it appears he’s avoided a long-term injury.
