Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer, walked and scored twice as the Guardians crushed the Nationals 9-1 in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Santana also went 3-for-5 in the first game, so it’s safe to say this is his best day of the year so far. The homer off Brad Lord was his fourth and gave him 13 RBI through 34 games. He raised his OPS from .632 to .679 today.
Tyrese Haliburton had 19 points (7-of-11 FGs), nine rebounds, four assists, one block and two three-pointers in the Pacers’ 120-119 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 2 on Tuesday.
Ben Lively pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball to pick up a win in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Nationals.
He struck out three. Aided by an easy schedule that’s included two starts against the Royals and one each against the White Sox and Pirates, Lively has a fine 3.46 ERA through eight starts. He’ll get another little assist next week when he misses the Phillies series and instead faces the Brewers.
Brad Lord yielded three runs in six innings Tuesday to take a loss to the Guardians in the second game of a doubleheader.
Lord was one out away from getting through six scoreless before Carlos Santana delivered a three-run homer. It was just the third hit the rookie surrendered in the contest. The Nationals are getting Michael Soroka back, so they have to decide whether to go to a six-man rotation, send Lord back to the pen or to option him to Triple-A to keep him stretched out. It’s possible they could put Trevor Williams in the pen instead, but that seems unlikely.
Matt Vierling (shoulder) belted a solo homer and walked twice on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Toledo.
Vierling has been limited to DH in his first two rehab games, but he should get back into the field at some point in the coming days. The 28-year-old has been out since late March recovering from a right shoulder strain. He figures to make it back to Detroit by mid-May.
Iván Herrera (knee) went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Memphis.
The positive news for fantasy managers is that Herrera was able to catch seven innings behind the plate in his return to game action after dealing with some renewed left knee soreness over the weekend. There’s a chance the 24-year-old slugging backstop is ready to rejoin the Cardinals’ lineup at some point in the next few days.
