PITCHERS
José Urquidy (HOU) $6.0K DK/$7.7K FD/$37 Yahoo
José Urquidy is coming off a big game against Texas last weekend when he allowed only one run on six hits and one walk over 6.2 innings. He compiled a career-high ten strikeouts, the first Houston pitcher to reach double-digit strikeouts in a game this season. When Urquidy’s changeup is working it’s one of the best in the majors and he will need it today against a Seattle team that roughed up Justin Verlander last night. Urquidy will be in T-Mobile Park – a pitcher-friendly stadium and is priced right on all sites to be a value play in tournaments.
Johnny Cueto (CWS) $7.2K DK/$36 Yahoo
Johnny Cueto is back! He has thrown 12 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts in his first two starts and one was against the powerful New York Yankees lineup. He has now become the first pitcher in franchise history with six-plus scoreless innings pitched in each of his first two appearances with the team and is holding hitters to a .191 average (8-for-42). He is an entirely different pitcher with a new pitch mix and now gets a plus matchup with the Cubs at home. The wind is blowing in and this is an offense that strikes out 25.5% to right-handed pitching. As long as he can keep the ball on the ground Cueto may be in for another solid performance as a tourney option on DraftKings.
HITTERS
Luke Voit (SDP) $2.8K DK/$2.6K FD/$15 Yahoo
I was all over Luke Voit last night and he came through with a home run and 3 RBIs. Now he gets a matchup against JT Brubaker and the Pirates bullpen again. Voit struggled out of the gate this season but is finally starting to hit - .320 with a .409 OBP and .407wOBA over the last seven days and now he’s up to .260 over the last month with a .239 ISO/.364wOBA. He has also hit right-handers on the reverse split over the last two seasons with a .236 ISO/.364wOBA. A sub $3K Luke Voit is always in play, especially against the Pirates bullpen that is ranked 28th against right-handed bats.
Odúbel Herrera (PHI) $2.1K DK/$2.2K FD/$12 Yahoo
Odúbel Herrera is swinging a hot bat. Over the last week, he is hitting .440 with a .313 ISO/.526wOBA and .500 OBP. Over his last three games, he is 6-for-11 with a home run, double, and four RBIs. Tonight he gets the platoon advantage over Taijuan Walker and the Mets. Herrera has a .239 ISO with a 40% flyball rate against left-handers this season while Walker is allowing 42% hard contact to left-handed bats as well as a .174 ISO.
Edwin Ríos (LAD) $3.6K DK/$2.3K FD/$10 Yahoo
Edwin Ríos has let his bat do the talking and now has earned playing time with the powerful Dodgers offense. He has now started six straight games and even started against a lefty last night (Madison Bumgarner) for only the second time this season. He didn’t disappoint by exploding on a high Bumgarner heater in his first at-bat. It was a high fly ball that peaked at 101 feet and sailed into the Dodger bullpen. That home run was Rios’s sixth of the season (second-most on the team) and he is now hitting .300 over the last month with a .340 ISO/.407wOBA. Tonight he gets back to facing a right-hander, Merrill Kelly, and Rios has a near-elite .290 ISO on the split.
J.D. Davis (NYM) $2.7K DK/$2.0K FD/$7 Yahoo
J.D. Davis has swung the bat real well all season, as a matter of fact, he has the highest hard-hit percentage in the league among qualified players (minimum 25 batted ball events). In 90 plate appearances, he has a hard-hit rate of 66% yet has been very unlucky with most of the balls that he has put in play with a batting average of .221 yet an expected batting average of .289. Davis’ luck may be changing though as he is hitting .400 over the last week highlighted by going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs against the Giants last Monday. The Mets are facing a right-handed pitcher tonight should (Zach Eflin) but I would still expect Davis in the lineup as he has a .362wOBA with 49% hard contact on the split since last season.
