Today provides us the best of both worlds as we get some afternoon, or morning depending on where you reside, baseball followed by a nine game MLB DFS main slate. All three sites, DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo Fantasy, are uniform tonight so that helps as well. Throughout the day, make sure you are following along with the latest MLB weather, MLB lineups, and MLB news while searching for some MLB DFS value options. It should be noted that after two underwhelming offensive games to begin the week, we get another Coors Field game tonight. 

 

 

DFS Value Pitchers

 

Paul Blackburn (OAK); DraftKings - $6,100; FanDuel - $8,000; Yahoo - $29

It is strange to see an All-Star priced this cheaply, but it should be noted that every team, even Oakland, gets to send a player to the mid-summer classic. All kidding aside, Blackburn does deserve his trip to Los Angeles based on his 3.36 ERA and 1.20 WHIP this season while picking up six victories. We do have to keep an eye out for the long ball here as in three of his last four starts, Blackburn allowed two home runs while throwing 6.1 shutout innings in the other. Overall, it hasn’t hindered him too much as Blackburn is allowing 0.89 home runs per nine innings so far this season and 3.74 xERA and 3.65 FIP supports what we are seeing from him. Blackburn strikes out 7.22 batters per nine innings while walking just 2.27 and pitching to a 47.8% ground ball rate which makes him a solid option for the price. 

 

 

Chad Kuhl (COL); DraftKings - $5,800; FanDuel - $7,200; Yahoo - $31

Let’s just steer right into the underwhelming offense we have been seeing from San Diego over the last two days and hope that there are no jinxes in play. Kuhl has been surprisingly strong so far this season with a 4.02 ERA and six victories to this point while also being successful at home with a 3.27 ERA in 41.1 innings and opposing hitters batting just .234 against him. With a 4.28 xERA for Kuhl, we should get a quality start out of him although with just 6.49 strikeouts per nine innings we do lose some upside there. Although at this price, it is hard to argue with what we have seen from Kuhl. 

 

DFS Value Hitters

 

Vimael Machín, SS/3B (OAK); DraftKings - $2,300; FanDuel – $2,100; Yahoo - $7

Machin appears to have settled in atop Oakland’s lineup over the past few days with back-to-back two hit games before picking up another hit last night. The infielder does not have much in the way of power or speed but he did hit .324 in 64 games at Triple-A this season while driving in 49 runs and scoring 41 times. The A’s should be busy offensively once again tonight and it is hard to pass up a lead-off at this price who has the ability to put the bat on the ball. 

 

 

Nick Castellanos, OF (PHI); DraftKings - $4,700; FanDuel - $2,700; Yahoo - $9

This is clearly more of a play for FD and Yahoo but going with Castellanos also works on DK in what should be a favorable matchup for Philadelphia against Ross Stripling. Castellanos has picked up a hit in nine of his last 10 games although he is still hitting just .251 in what has been an underwhelming debut season in Philadelphia. The run production has been there though with 46 RBI on the season for Castellanos even if his 7.5%-barrel rate is off from his career average of 10%. 

 

 

Eloy Jiménez, OF (CWS); DraftKings - $3,700; FanDuel - $3,000; Yahoo - $12

Aaron Civale has a 6.28 ERA on the season while allowing 1.36 home runs per nine innings so stacking White Sox batters tonight will likely be a popular direction to take. This season has not gone according to plan for Jimenez as he is batting .206 with just two home runs in 68 plate appearances but he has driven in 13 runs and we know he is capable of more. In fairness to Jimenez, he does have a 51.3% hard-hit rate with a 10.3% barrel-rate and 92.6 mile per hour average exit velocity. 

 

 

Gleyber Torres, 2B (NYY); DraftKings - $4,800; FanDuel - $3,000; Yahoo - $18

Torres brought his hitting streak to six games on Tuesday with his second three hit effort, and fifth multi-hit game, of the stretch. Facing Mike Minor gives Torres not only a favorable match-up but also the platoon advantage tonight as he is hitting .293 in 82 at bats against left-handers with eight home runs and 13 RBI. We are seeing career highs across the board from Torres to this point when it comes to batted ball metrics and that includes a 10.3%-barrel rate and 46.7% hard-hit rate.
