MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 30
Luis Arraez, Miami Marlins – OVER 1.5 Total Bases
In case you stopped paying attention, Luis Arraez is still in the thick of it for his quest to bat .400 for the season. After going 0-for-3 yesterday, Arraez’s batting average now sits at .392 – so we’re banking on a bounceback night at the plate. We’ve seen this earlier this month from the Miami Marlins' second baseman when he dipped below .400. He’s shown the ability and confidence to respond with multi-hit games and string together another hitting streak. It’s also been very rare this season to see Arraez go hitless for multiple games in a row. He’ll face Atlanta Braves starter Michael Soroka, who’s being recalled from Triple-A after a pair of shaky outings a month ago. Soroka gave up 12 hits and nine earned runs over those two starts and though he’s been better in the minors lately, we need to see it at the major-league level to trust him being fully back. So we’ll fade him with Arraez, who’s hitting .396 against right-handed pitching this year.
Carlos Carrasco, New York Mets – UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts
The San Francisco Giants offense has definitely been one to bet against for strikeout props this season. In this instance, though, Carlos Carrasco’s strikeout number is a tad too high and the prop might be overinflated because of the favorable matchup. Carrasco has gone under 4.5 strikeouts in nine of 10 starts this season with only 33 K’s over 48 innings pitched. His 15.1% K rate is his lowest since 2013, not to mention a career-high 10.6% walk rate this year. The New York Mets starter also has a poor 6.19 ERA, 6.57 FIP, and 1.56 WHIP so far – including a 7.02 ERA during the month of June. Yes, the Giants’ 24.5% K rate vs right-handed pitching is one of the worst in the league this season. Still, Carrasco is averaging just 3.6 K’s per start over his past seven outings since coming off the IL in May. Plus, he’s on a short leash with pitch counts limited to 80 pitches or so in most starts.
