Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks - Best Picks & Plays for July 4: Yordan Alvarez & Jose Abreu Continue to Mash
Happy Independence Day and Fourth of July! Before you get the grill fired up and a cold one cracked, make sure to lock in your MLB player props and set those fantasy baseball lineups for the day. I have two MLB player props that stand out above the rest, and then two others that are just a step behind in my tiers of MLB best bets for the day. Yordan Alvarez has a juicy matchup against Kansas City’s Jonathan Heasley and Chicago’s José Abreu has been one of the hottest hitters on the planet over the last week or so. Both sluggers also figure to be MLB DFS top plays today as well. Yordan Alvarez OVER 1.5 Total Bases
Alvarez may be only 5-for-21 over his last seven games, but that’s not scaring me off here, as this matchup is quite juicy for the superstar slugger. Jonathan Heasley has allowed a .373 wOBA on the road this season, not to mention a 2.31 HR/9 and 7.02 FIP. When facing right-handers this season, Alvarez is hitting .340 with a 1.167 OPS and he’s 2-for-3 in his career against Heasley. Despite the recent “slump” for Alvarez, he’s due to break out in a big way today against Heasley and his 9.24 ERA and 2.84 HR/9 over his last three starts.
José Abreu OVER 1.5 Total Bases
Sometimes, things just work out with a line where the stars align. There’s no such thing as a guarantee, but I absolutely love this play for a myriad of reasons. First off, Abreu is seeing a beach ball at the plate at the moment, as he is hitting .519 with a .630 slugging percentage over his last seven games, and he’s in the midst of an eight-game hit streak, where has not one, not two, not three, but four multi-hit contests. During this run, he has at least two total bases in six of those eight games, and he has a great matchup today. For his career, he’s 7-for-18 with a home run against Dylan Bundy, and overall against righties this season, he’s hitting .286 with an .810 OPS and .358 wOBA.
