Carlos Carrasco MLB Picks At Sleeper Fantasy Today, 4/14: Baseball Projections + More

What a great slate of MLB games here on a Monday! It’s the perfect opportunity to win some money on Sleeper Fantasy with our Sleeper MLB DFS picks!
Not only do we get to watch some outstanding pitchers take the bump – Paul Skenes, Tarik Skubal, just to name a couple – but we are also going to see some runs scored against some very lackluster starters. The San Diego Padres against a very hittable Jameson Taillon is likely where we are living.
Overall, it should be a fun night and one where we can make a few extra bucks with our MLB pick ‘em picks today.

Carlos Carrasco Sleeper Fantasy MLB Pick: More Than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (1.92x)
As expected, Carrasco has been absolutely atrocious this season, posting a 7.71 ERA with a 1.63 WHIP over 11.2 very painful innings. He’s giving up way too many home runs early, his strikeout rate is pretty mid, and he doesn’t have swing-and-miss stuff, as evidenced by the 8.3-percent swinging-strike rate. That’s a very dangerous thing when you’re giving up more than a 20-percent barrel rate.
The Royals aren’t exactly lighting it up against right-handed pitching this season – just a .263 wOBA – but they just finished seven-straight games against division rivals and are ready to take on someone new like the Yankees. They don’t need to do too much here with Carrasco on the bump and I expect the home runs to start flying out of Yankee Stadium for them. He’s given up at least three runs in each of his three starts this season. No reason to think he does otherwise tonight.
Jameson Taillon Sleeper Fantasy MLB Pick: More Than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (2.02x)
Not only do the Padres have the best record in baseball, but they are destroying right-handed pitching right now. We’re talking about a .352 wOBA with a 130 wRC+. They’ve won four-straight and six of their last seven, averaging five runs per game over that span. Even without players like Jackson Merrill, they’ve been extremely productive.
Taillon has allowed 11 earned runs over 16.1 innings and has twice allowed at least three runs in a start this season. The one game he didn’t, he allowed two to the Athletics and probably would have allowed more had the bottom of their lineup been so inept. The Padres won’t let him off the hook so easily tonight.
Total Multiplier: 3.87x

Player News
Huascar Brázoban will serve as an opener for the Mets on Wednesday.
Brázoban will start the game and be followed by Brandon Waddell. It will be Brázoban’s second time serving as an opener this season.
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reports that the Cubs are calling up RHP Chris Flexen.
The Cubs signed Flexen in the off-season and changed his arm slot. The results have been great, with Flexen registering a 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 21:8 K:BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings at Triple-A. There’s been no announcement yet about his role, but Shota Imanaga left last night’s game with leg cramps, and Ben Brown got hit hard in his last start and could be destined for the bullpen.
Reds recalled 2B Tyler Callihan from Triple-A Louisville.
Callihan is hitting .303/.410/.528 with four homers and six steals in 24 games for Triple-A Louisville. He should operate as a bench bat with Jeimer Candelario now on the IL.
Reds placed 3B Jeimer Candelario on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine strain.
Candelario has been battling his back injury for a few weeks while playing sporadically. The Reds will now shut him down for a couple of weeks at least to see if that helps him heal up. Spencer Steer should continue to start regularly at first base with Noelvi Marte at third base. Gavin Lux and Austin Hays will mix in at DH in the immediate future as well.
Matt Shaw went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.
Shaw is now 6-for-10 in his last two games as he looks to find his footing and show the Cubs that he’s ready for another chance at MLB at-bats. It will probably take another couple of weeks of strong production from Shaw to force the Cubs’ hand, but he’s too talented to remain in Triple-A for too long.
Trevor Rogers (knee) allowed four runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
He also walked three and struck out two on the day. The Orioles could certainly use some reinforcements in their rotation, and getting Rogers back and healthy could be the answer to their problems. Unfortunately, Rogers hasn’t been good since coming to Baltimore and does not appear close to 100 percent right now.
