Weather entered the picture on Wednesday with one game being postponed while a second ended after five innings due a downpour. There will be a double header on Thursday with an interesting wrinkle the major leagues could look at if they ever return to the field:

Not included in the tweet, the first game of the double header will not go into extra-innings if still tied. Remember, the KBO allows for ties in the regular season. As for the other game, Aaron Brooks benefits from the heavy rain en route to his third win:
#KBO update: Kia Tigers-KT Wiz game was called after 5 innings were complete with the Tigers leading 10-0. Kia starter @AaronLBrooks was credited with his 1st KBO complete game shutout. Gave up 3 hits, struck out 3, walked none to improve to 3-2 and lower ERA to 2.76.

With injuries piling up in the KBO, the KT Wiz could be losing a member of its rotation after a rough outing versus Kia:
#KBO | #KTWiz starter Min Kim gave up 8 runs in 2 1/3 IP tonight vs #KIATigers. He complained of shoulder pain after his outing and will get a MRI this week. KT was expected to contend for WC this season, but it's been an ugly start to the season so far. #KBOLeague

Kia’s Sun-bin Kim landed on the injury list prior to this contest with a hamstring injury, and his team awaits MRI results as to the severity of before commenting on how long he may be sidelined. It’s been covered here before, but soft tissue injuries along with pitching injuries keep accumulating in the KBO and major league players should be paying close attention with a truncated spring training leading up to game action if an agreement can be reached. For some good news, Kiwoom’s talented hitter Jung-hoo Lee gives credit to his analytical department providing his progression as a power hitter. Lee addresses this in this interview:

Entering game play on Wednesday, Lee owned a .374/.438/.618 slash line with 13 doubles and five home runs through 31 games. In his three seasons prior, Lee hit 14 home runs combined. But nerds remain bad for the game, right? Check out the top performers from the slate in the rest of the Round Up.
Starting Pitcher Spotlight
As alluded to earlier, Aaron Brooks benefited from the weather and a struggling Wiz lineup recording a five inning complete game shutout giving up three hits and striking out three including this at-bat:

Brooks lowered his ERA to 2.76 with a 1.18 WHIP after this outing and boasts a 34:7 K:BB over his first 42.1 innings in the KBO.
Targeting Hanwha’s struggling offense makes sense as evidenced by Lotte’s Kyung-eun Noh notching his second win allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), and striking out five. This marks his third quality outing in six turns and lowered his ERA to 5.45 on the year.
While most focused on the NC Dinos starter on this slate, Raul Alcantara registered his KBO leading sixth win tossing seven innings yielding six hits, one earned run, and striking out four snapping the Dinos six game winning streak. Alcantara proves to be hittable at times illustrated by his 4.07 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, however pitching for Doosan’s offense while racking up innings keeps him atop the wins column.
Entering Wednesday’s match-up with Kiwoom with an ERA over 10, Jung-hyun Baek garnered his first win this season firing six shutout innings giving up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. So, baseball.
Both Drew Rucinski and Eric Jokisch suffered their first losses of the season with each throwing quality outings in them. Rucinski pitched six innings allowing three hits, two earned runs and one walk with three strikeouts. Jokisch also worked six innings yielding five hits, three runs (one earned) and two walks with three strikeouts. Rucinski owns a 2.23 ERA and 1.13 WHIP while Jokisch carries a 1.49 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. Pretty, pretty good despite the losses.
Hitter Highlights

Eui-ji Yang (C) - Homered for the second straight game against his former team. Yang went 1-for-3 with his sixth home run and moved into a tie for fourth in the KBO in RBI (29) as a result of his solo shot.
Aaron Altherr (OF) - Tripled in three at-bats extending his hit streak to seven. During the streak, Altherr’s notched nine hits but six resulted in extra-bases (two doubles, one triple, three home runs).
Kiwoom Heroes

Player News
Phillies INF prospect Otto Kemp went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.
Kemp now has seven home runs on the season and is hitting .313 with a 1.072 OPS. More importantly, he has played games at 2B, 3B, LF, and 1B for Lehigh Valley this season, which means the Phillies could eventually call him up as a super utility player. His primary position is third base, so he could be an option there if Alec Bohm continues to struggle, but Kemp his 16 home runs and stole 20 bases in the minors last year, so there is some power and speed here if he ever gets a shot.
Cardinals RHP prospect Michael McGreevy allowed three runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings for Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
McGreevy struck out four and walked three on the day and is now sporting a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 25/7 K/BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings this season. The right-hander almost won a rotation spot out of spring training, and the Cardinals’ starting pitching has really struggled of late, so there is a window for him to push his way into the big league rotation. However, he’s going to have to pitch a little better to force St. Louis’ hand.
White Sox 1B prospect Tim Elko went 2-for-5 with a walk, two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
The White Sox’s hulking first base prospect now has nine home runs and 20 RBI on the season while slashing .354/.432/.732 in 23 games at Triple-A. He’s also sporting a 28 percent strikeout rate and has always had strikeout rates around 30 percent in the minors, which likely means he will struggle to hit for a good average at the big league level. That said, the 26-year-old is a career .292 hitter in the minors and probably deserves a shot at some big league at-bats soon.
Cubs 3B prospect Matt Shaw went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run for Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.
Shaw has gotten off to a slow start at Iowa, hitting just 5-for-26 in his first seven games. However, he has five walks and just one strikeout, and will most likely quickly show that he is too talented to remain at that level for long. It may just take another few weeks before that works itself out, which makes him hard to stash in most league types.
The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports that "[Chas] McCormick’s spot on the major-league roster has never felt more tenuous.”
The 30-year-old McCormick is slashing .318/.423/.364 on the season but has been limited to just 29 plate appearances, and the Astros have also said that Cam Smith will start taking fly balls in centerfield. As Rome points out, “The entire premise of carrying McCormick centered on his ability to back up Jake Meyers in center field and serve as a late-game defensive replacement for Smith or Altuve in the corners.” If the Astros don’t need McCormick as a late-game defensive replacement and Zach Dezenzo begins to show more offensive promise, there is little need for McCormick on the roster. Rome adds, “The act of exposing Smith to center field accentuates how far McCormick has fallen in the organizational hierarchy. That he has taken 19 plate appearances since April 3 — and sacrifice-bunted during two of them — further demonstrates his standing.”
The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports that the chances of Hunter Brown agreeing to a contract extension with Houston as “narrow, if not nonexistent.”
That’s not to say that Brown is leaving the Astros, but Rome believes it’s a near certainty that Brown will test the free agent market and try to command a big payday. Something we probably could have pieced together when he changed his agent and hired Scott Boras. According to Rome, “Brown was interested in an extension last spring, but talks with Houston’s front office never materialized into anything substantial.” At the time, Brown had a 4.60 ERA across 176 MLB innings, so it’s understandable that the Astros were uncertain, but they’re probably kicking themselves now.
