We have entered the month of September and injuries in fantasy baseball are starting to enter the territory of season-ending or not. With just a few weeks left in the 2022 MLB regular season, there is no time to sit on a player that might be day-to-day or hit the Injured List for a short period of time. Your fantasy baseball lineups could suffer with the wasted roster spot and you could be eliminated or out of contention by the time the injured player comes back. This week's MLB injury report has to be treated differently now and you can no longer wait for guys to return. If you need to fill holes in your fantasy baseball lineups, we have the top fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups here to find those injury replacements. Plus, check out the latest MLB top prospects that may be rising up fantasy baseball rankings. As always, monitor MLB starting lineups and the latest daily fantasy baseball news to stay on top of it all. Before we enjoy this holiday weekend, check out the latest MLB injury news in the world of fantasy baseball.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report September 2

Clayton Kershaw – Los Angeles Dodgers SP

Kershaw was able to return on Thursday and was right back to his usual self after a tough start. He did walk a bunch of guys but allowed just one run over five innings and struck out six against a tough Mets lineup. The Dodgers will likely move to a six-man rotation, but you have to put Kershaw back into your lineups the next time he pitches and hope that he can be a stud over the last four weeks.

Shane McClanahan – Tampa Bay Rays SP

The Rays put McClanahan on the 15-day Injured List with a shoulder impingement, which really wasn’t bad news considering that it could have been much worse. I still don’t think that McClanahan will be ready to return in the two weeks he is set to miss, but it definitely doesn’t sound like it is season-ending. We are still waiting for a little more news from the team, but right now it looks like a situation to stash him on your IL and not let him go until we know he isn’t coming back.

Willson Contreras – Chicago Cubs C

The Cubs catcher was removed from the game on Tuesday and didn’t play Wednesday either with discomfort in his ankle. Tests revealed that there is no structural damage in the area, and it appears that Contreras has avoided a long-term injury. I don’t know that he will return on Friday, but you should expect Contreras to return to the Cubs lineup at some point this weekend.

Trevor Rogers – Miami Marlins SP

Rogers missed a month of the season with a back injury, but he was activated from the IL and spun a gem on Tuesday. Rogers threw six innings, allowed just one run, and struck out five against a solid Rays lineup. He was a breakout star last year but has struggled mightily this season. Hopefully, this is the chance for him to be healthy and great in the month of September and there is no team that you should sit Rogers against.

Christian Yelich – Milwaukee Brewers SP

The Brewers slugger left Thursday’s game with neck discomfort. He’s had a pretty good month, but we will wait to see what the tests reveal before we know how long he might miss. This would be an unfortunate injury for your fantasy team as we head into the last month of the season.

Jameson Taillon – New York Yankees SP

Taillon left Tuesday’s start after taking a line drive off of his right forearm, but the good news is that X-rays have come back negative. He is set to pitch again on Monday, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see the Yankees give him a couple of extra days, although their division lead is shrinking by the day. Keep an eye out for the injury column Monday for an update on this situation.

Anthony Rizzo – New York Yankees 1B

The Yankees first baseman is dealing with lingering back issues and didn’t play Wednesday. Now the fear is that Rizzo is going to miss the crucial weekend series against the Rays. At this point, we can’t rule out that he will hit the Injured List as back injuries are really tough to manage. I would think that if this was June, that Rizzo would definitely be put on the IL. As the standings get closer, the Yankees know they need one of their top sluggers. If you can, I would move Rizzo out of your lineups until he finds his way back on the field.

Eloy Jiménez – Chicago White Sox OF

Fantasy players have to be completely sick of this guy at this point. It seems like once a week he is being removed from a game or missing a game due to whatever the injury of the week is. Jimenez left Thursday’s game with right leg soreness and who knows how long he might be out. I would imagine this is more of a day-to-day thing than worthy of a trip to the Injured List, but I swear I’ve written more about Jimenez more this season than almost anyone else. He has talent so you have to start him in your lineups when he is healthy, but Jimenez has to be one of the most frustrating players in the league injury-wise.

Brett Baty – New York Mets 3B

The Mets prospect has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his thumb and had surgery on Thursday. Shockingly, the team says this might not be season-ending, but if you were hoping for something from the young prospect it probably behooves you to cut ties as he wasn’t doing enough to be worthy of a stash and hope that he can be a part of the Mets fan in 2023.
