That Happened?
Trevor Bauer was placed on the 10-Day DL with a stress fracture in his leg. Bauer was injured after being hit in the leg with a comebacker in his most recent start. Cleveland’s manager Terry Francona stated that there is no timetable for return. Bauer has been fantastic this year and likely to get votes for the AL Cy Young after making a few adjustments and adding a power slider that was sporting a 20.4% swinging strike rate and a 43% O-swing.
Adam Jones will reportedly be placed on the bereavement list later in the week to attend a funeral in San Diego, according to Roch Kubatko. Jones responded with a huge game for the Orioles. He went 2-for-4 with a home run that tied the game in the sixth inning in what would eventually be a win for the Orioles. Jones has had a very Adam Jones like season, hitting .284/.315/.438 with 13 home runs and four stolen bases. He is in the final year of his deal with the Orioles and reportedly nixed a trade at the deadline because he didn’t want to leave Baltimore, where he recently bought Cal Ripken’s old home. This could mean that it is the last year for the 33-year-old unless he wants to sign a cheap deal to return to Baltimore, signs in nearby Washington, or starts over in a new city.
Jalen Beeks threw five innings versus the Yankees, allowing two runs and striking out eight. Beeks did not start the game as the Rays used their “opener” strategy with Hunter Wood , but he was good in keeping the Yankees at bay. Beeks could be a sneaky add in leagues with starts limits or that differentiate starting and relief pitchers.
Taylor Ward will made his Major league debut for the Angels on Tuesday going 2-for-3 with a walk versus the Padres. The former catcher was the 26th overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft and has hit .349/.446/.531 with 14 home runs and 18 stolen bases between AA and AAA this season. With Luis Valbuena recently being released, Ward could play every day for the Halos and become a great fantasy player while he still has catcher eligibility.
Yasiel Puig and Nick Hundley were ejected from Tuesday’s game after this altercation and ensuing melee:

A suspension could be handed down at some point for Puig because of the fists thrown.
What We’ll Be Watching Today
Kevin Gausman versus the Marlins. Since being acquired at the deadline, Gausman has thrown 13 innings over two starts with a 2.77 ERA and 10 strike out to two walks. He has also allowed no home runs since coming over to the Braves. The Braves apparently made him move on the rubber and clean up his mechanics, which could be huge for the 27-year-old, but we have seen flashes from him before, so many will be wary.
Hyun-Jin Ryu makes his return from the DL versus the Giants. Ryu was fantastic this season before getting hurt and the Dodgers believe in his health enough that they moved both Ross Stripling and Kenta Maeda to the bullpen.
Jacob Faria returns to the rotation for the Rays. Faria has pitched out of the bullpen in his last two appearances, but will return to the rotation for the time being. It is a tough matchup for Faria, but it good to see the Rays haven’t given up on him as a starter.
Where will Robinson Canó play? Cano was activated from the DL yesterday and played first base. He is likely to play mostly at first, but there is talk he will play some at second and third. If he can play enough at first and third, he could have some interesting positional eligibility rest of the way and going into 2019.
Baseball. Lots of baseball.
