While injuries continue to accumulate adversely affecting the fantasy community, Jorge Polanco continues to surge. Polanco recorded his second four hit game last night and eighth multi-hit game of the season. He’s currently second in the American League in batting average (.392), trailing only Tim Anderson . Fueling the Twins win, along with two infield hits by Nelson Cruz , Polanco hit his fourth home run, barely eluding the effort of Josh Reddick . This marks the second best home run total in a month by Polanco, he hit six in August of 2017. Not sure how long Polanco can maintain this hot streak, but, he looks like a bargain so far for those who waited to draft a shortstop.
Remember when Nolan Arenado started slowly without a barrel? He went 3-for-4 Monday night with two doubles, his fourth home run and notched the 1,000th hit of his career. Arenado’s the youngest player in Rockies history to accomplish the feat. Please remember it’s a marathon. With this in mind, here’s the rest of the action from Monday in today’s Round Up.
Hitter Highlights: Abreu racks up five RBI
Entering last night’s action, José Abreu owned a .189 batting average and .365 slugging percentage. However, his .244 expected average and .495 expected slugging hinted at a pending rebound. Abreu rewarded the speculators feasting on Orioles pitching racking up three hits, his fourth home run and driving in five runs. Patience pays sometimes.
In the loss, Trey Mancini extended his hit streak to five games while notching his 10th multiple hit game of the season. He’s hit safely in 20 of the Orioles first 24 games.
During a Pirates bullpen implosion, Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta reaped the rewards. Escobar finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, a walk and his third home run. Peralta doubled and tripled leading to three RBI. Christian Walker launched his seventh home run and currently owns a 1.135 on-base plus slugging percentage.
Welcome back Gregory Polanco . He finished with two hits in four at-bats including a run and a double. He provides much needed depth to the Pirates depleted outfield.
In a loss, Alex Gordon hit his fifth home run and Hunter Dozier his seventh. Here’s how each has fared over the last 13 games:
Alex Gordon - 18-for-55 (.327) with nine doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.
Hunter Dozier - 20-for-44 (.454) with four doubles, six home runs, 10 walks and eight multi-hit games.
Leading the Rays comeback, Yandy Díaz hit his sixth home run and third in his last six games. Tommy Pham went 2-for-3 with a run and a triple. Over his last 10 games, Pham owns a .333 average with four home runs and seven RBI.
Jeff McNeil hit his first home run of 2019 on his 28th hit of the season. Todd Frazier made his debut with a hit and a stolen base in four at-bats.
After a slow start, Dexter Fowler ’s on a heater. He hit his first home run on Monday night along with driving in four runs. He’s currently slashing .313/.403/.433 and recorded at least a hit in 11 of his last 12 starts. Paul Goldschmidt hit his ninth home run and drove in three.
Two eight-game hit streaks but they’re not teammates. Adam Eaton went 1-for-4 with a run and his fourth stolen base. He’s hitting .412 in his streak. Michael Brantley spurred the Astros offense in a loss with two hits, his fourth home run and an RBI. Brantley’s hitting .375 in his streak and reached base in his last 14 games.
In a game highlighted by a blown save, intentional walks and injuries, at least Peter Bourjos flashed his defensive prowess in the infield for the Angels:

Starting Pitcher Recap: Flaherty outlasts the Brew Crew
Part of evolving as a pitcher includes improving against a nemesis. Milwaukee hits Jack Flaherty hard but he lasted six innings last night giving up three hits, all home runs, four earned runs and a walk with 10 strikeouts. Flaherty recorded 20 swinging strikes, 10 with his four-seam fastball, and 21 called for a robust 39.8 CSW (called plus swinging strikes) percentage.
After the rain delay, Steven Matz stifled the Phillies en route to his second win. Matz limited Philadelphia to three hits, one earned run and two walks with six strikeouts. He produced 11 swinging strikes and 19 called for a 30.3 CSW percentage. Here’s the other pitchers worth noting from Monday:
Joe Musgrove , Pittsburgh: 94 pitches, 13 swinging strikes, 17 called, 31.9 CSW%. Musgrove deserved a better fate, but lost a chance at the win when the bullpen melted down.
J.A. Happ , New York Yankees: 89 pitches, six swinging strikes, 13 called, 25.3 CSW%. Happ settled in after allowing an early home run to Jonathan Lucroy , throwing seven innings giving up two earned runs and two walks with five strikeouts.
Matt Harvey , Los Angeles Angels: 83 pitches, eight swinging strikes, 13 called, 25.3 CSW%. Lasting six inning, Matt Harvey turned in a much needed quality start giving up three hits, two earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts versus a watered down Yankees lineup.
Chris Bassitt , Oakland: 90 pitches, 11 swinging strikes, 19 called, 33.3 CSW%. Getting Texas on the road benefits starters and Bassitt made the most of it winning his season debut. He held the Rangers to two hits and four walks in five shutout innings with seven strikeouts.
Bullpen Notes: Winds of change for the Angels?
It’s difficult to gauge a changing of the guard in a tied game, but, Hansel Robles pitched the ninth striking out the side, not Cody Allen . Allen’s struggled of late giving up a run in four straight appearances. Robles worked as the opener on Sunday, but earned the highest leverage spot on Monday night. It could be nothing or it could be something. Stay tuned.
In this game, Aroldis Chapman suffered his first blown save giving up a hit to Brian Goodwin in the bottom of the 12th inning. Chapman continues to work with less velocity and throwing more sliders. More worrisome, Chapman only generated one swinging strike among his 27 pitches.
Tampa Bay provided a much needed night off for José Alvarado and Diego Castillo . This opened the door for Emilio Pagán to notch his first save. He fired a clean ninth. Adam Kolarek recorded his sixth hold with a clean eighth and two strikeouts.
Blake Parker returned to the ninth working around a hit to preserve the Twins win. He missed the last two games due to illness.
Save number two for Wade Davis . He did allow a hit and a walk. Good news, Davis owns a 57.1 ground ball rate so far, but his 10 walks against six walks may concern owners going forward.
What To Watch For
As the fantasy community awaits official word on if Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will in fact make his debut in Toronto, Anthony Rendon owners hope he returns to the lineup in Coors. Keep tabs on Robinson Canó ’s hand injury as well.
Let’s play two in Boston. How will Chris Sale pitch? What type of start would assuage his owners?
Carlos Carrasco gets the Marlins at home, so, he’s either going to strikeout 14 or last two innings.
Two pitchers looking for a rebound match-up in New York as Zach Eflin faces Zack Wheeler .
With Kyle Freeland heading to the injured list, who starts in Coors versus Patrick Corbin ?

Player News
Kyren Paris hit a two-run homer in Wednesday’s win for the Angels over the Blue Jays.
That’s the first homer for Paris since April 9 when he went deep twice against Tampa Bay and caused everyone to lose all sense of rational thought. The 23-year-old did also single and walk to improve his on-base percentage to .311,, while the homer bumps his slugging mark to .378. There is long-term upside in Paris with flashes that suggest he can be a fantasy option. Fantasy managers should still absolutely looking elsewhere for options up the middle.
Jorge Soler hit a three-run double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Angels a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Trent Grisham went 1-for-1 with a game-tying two-run home run in the eighth inning of a 4-3 win over the Padres on Wednesday.
While the Yankees won this game on a walk-off in the 10th inning, Grisham’s game-tying home run in the eighth was the biggest moment. He came on as a pinch-hitter for Jorbit Vibas against the usually stout Jason Adam and smashed a two-strike changeup into the right field seats. This clutch shot will only continue to push Grisham’s playing time in the right direction after he just started eight of the last 10 games, hit either first or second in each, and already has 10 homers in 31 games played this season.
Jeff Hoffman blew a save and picked up a loss Wednesday against the Angels.
Devin Williams struck out three batters with one walk and hit another in a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win against the Padres on Wednesday.
The Yankees entrusted Williams with the all important 10th inning and the inherited ghost runner on second base after their dramatic comeback. While he loaded the bases and had some tense moments, he left the inning unscathed and opened the door for them to win it right after. It should be noted that Luke Weaver came on for what were the most important outs of this game at the time, after Ian Hamilton walked two to begin the eighth inning and Weaver allowed both of those inherited runners to score. He was called upon as the fireman though and will likely get the next save opportunity. Still, this was a massive step in the right direction for Williams.
Max Fried allowed five hits and one run with no walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Wednesday.
Fried’s excellent season continued as he set down the Padres easily besides for a mammoth solo home run by Jackson Merrill. It was no matter though, as they rarely threatened otherwise and Fried continued to find his strikeout stuff. This was his fourth outing of the year with at least seven strikeouts, a mark he only hit 10 times last season in 29 starts. Fried with a strikeout rate that’s better than league average – which is where he’s at right now – is a clear top-10 pitcher in fantasy baseball. He’s set for a two-start week coming up against the Mariners and Mets.
