Hitters ----
Play of the Day: Giancarlo Stanton-- Stanton went deep for the fourth straight game yesterday, and 9th time in his last ten games. His 42 HR’s places him one shy of tying Gary Sheffield for the franchise record for homers in a season. Stanton faces the lefty Blach for the first time in his career, and even though he has pitched well lately, Stanton’s home run tear is hard to ignore.
Top Play: Mike Napoli-- Napoli checks in with a nice discount from his teammate Gallo tonight. Fulmer has not pitched this month, but gave up 14 earned runs over his last three starts before heading to the DL. Napoli has dropped to under .200 for the season, but has hit 23 HR’s, and is 4-8, with two home runs lifetime off of Fulmer.
Value Play: Matt Olson- Olson went 1-4 in each of his last three games, but each hit went for a home run. Junis is coming off his best start of the season, but before being sent down to the minors, Junis allowed eight home runs in his previous four starts.
GPP Play: Freddie Freeman- -The Braves make the trip to Coors tonight, and face Bettis, who will be making his season debut after beating cancer earlier this year. Freeman is 0-9 lifetime off Bettis, but has a .280 avg, and a .964 OPS with five HR’s lifetime at Coors. Freeman is 5-8 with a double and stolen base over his last two games.
Pitchers ----
Play of the Day: Jose Quintana-- Quintana is facing the Reds for the first time in his career tonight, and will be looking for his first win since July 23rd. Even with allowing six home runs over his last four starts, Quintana has produced quality starts in four of his five starts for the Cubs. On an average pitching slate, Quintana is one of the few pitchers with double digit strikeout upside.
Top Play: Zack Greinke -- Greinke will look to bounce back from his first home loss this season in his last start vs the Dodgers, with a matchup with the best team in the AL in the Astros. Greinke has at least eight strikeouts in each of his last three starts, and struck out 11 Astro’s in a start vs them last season.
GPP Play: Kevin Gausman-- Gausman has turned his season around to the point where he is now priced as a top three starting pitcher for tonight’s slate. Gausman has allowed one run or less in four of his last five starts, while striking out eight batters in four of those five games starts as well. He’s a slight favorite on the road tonight vs Seattle, where he is 0-2, with a 3.20 ERA in three career starts vs them.
GPP Play: Jerad Eickhoff-- Eickhoff is the underdog tonight on the road vs the Padres, but has won his last three decisions to improve to 3-7 for the season. Eickhoff has allowed three or less runs in six of his last seven, including four straight starts for the first time in his career. He is also 3-0 lifetime vs the Padres.
