Cleveland Indians vs Sean Reid-Foley
Reid-Foley is coming off a dominating outing against the Marlins in which he went seven innings, allowing one run and striking out 10. Today’s matchup should go a little different as he is facing a Cleveland lineup with a lot more firepower than that of the Miami Marlins. Prior to his last start Reid-Foley had allowed nine runs on 13 hits over 9.1 innings against the Yankees and Royals. I am looking at Cleveland to lead the early slate in runs this afternoon.
Top Stack Options: José Ramírez , Francisco Lindor , Edwin Encarnación, Melky Cabrera
Secondary Options: Yonder Alonso , Jason Kipnis , Yan Gomes
Milwaukee Brewers vs Chris Stratton
I’ll give you that Stratton has pitched well lately, allowing just four earned runs over his last 20.1 innings which spans three starts but it's also worth noting that two of those three starts came against the Mets. Tonight he faces a Brewers lineup that can put runs on the board in a hurry as they are lead by N.L. MVP candidate Christian Yelich along with Lorenzo Cain , Travis Shaw and Jesus Aguilar to name a few. The Brewers lineup has a ton of power and that’s the type of line up you want to stack in your GPP contests.
Top Stack Options: Christian Yelich , Lorenzo Cain , Jesus Aguilar , Travis Shaw
Secondary Options: Ryan Braun , Mike Moustakas , Jonathan Schoop
Contrarian Stack
Boston Red Sox vs Charlie Morton
The Red Sox got to Morton for six runs on nine hits earlier this season. They will look to repeat that type of production this afternoon as Morton makes his return from a shoulder injury that landed him on the DL. Boston’s offense is the top ranked team against right-handed pitching this season and they absolutely rake at Fenway Park. The Red Sox should also be motivated to avenge last night’s loss after the team’s bullpen twice blew the game.
Top Stack Options: Mookie Betts , J.D. Martínez , Andrew Benintendi
Secondary Options: Ian Kinsler , Mitch Moreland , Jackie Bradley Jr.
Seattle Mariners vs Lance Lynn
Sooo, Lynn has allowed 19 earned runs on 31 hits over his last 18.2 innings. Those 18.2 innings span four starts against the likes of the Tigers, White Sox, Marlins and Blue Jays. Not exactly the league's elite. Enter today’s matchup against the Mariners who are fighting for a playoff berth and chasing the Yankees to get there who hold one of the two Wild Card spots. Lefties are crushing Lynn, hitting .303 with an OPS of .870 off him, which makes guys like Robinson Canó , Denard Span and Kyle Seager interesting in this matchup.
Top Stack Options: Robinson Canó , Mitch Haniger , Nelson Cruz , Denard Span
Secondary Options: Kyle Seager , Dee Gordon , Ryon Healy
Player News
Rangers selected the contract of RHP Dane Dunning from Triple-A Round Rock.
Dunning rejoins the Rangers’ relief mix just a couple weeks after being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster altogether. The 30-year-old righty failed to make Texas’ season-opening roster, but he’ll get another look in long relief after posting a pedestrian 5.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 21/9 K/BB ratio across 20 innings (five starts) for Triple-A Round Rock in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
Rangers optioned RHP Caleb Boushley to Triple-A Round Rock.
Boushley heads back to the minors after posting a serviceable 5.87 ERA across 7 2/3 innings (three appearances) for the Rangers since his call-up back on April 8.
Orioles claimed LHP Walter Pennington off waivers from the Rangers.
Pennington will head to Triple-A Norfolk as extra organizational relief depth after being claimed off release waivers from the Rangers. The 27-year-old southpaw made 16 relief appearances last year between the Rangers and Royals in his shot at the highest level.
Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase reports Luis Arraez (concussion) is expected to be activated for Tuesday’s series opener against the Giants.
Arraez landed on the 7-day concussion injured list last Monday following a scary on-field collision the previous night in Houston. The 28-year-old infielder dealt with concussion symptoms for a couple days last week, but has been symptom-free of late and was able to complete workouts. All signs point to him being ready to return for Tuesday’s showdown in San Diego.
Rangers released LHP Walter Pennington.
Pennington was cut loose by the Rangers after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal from the club’s 40-man roster last week. The 27-year-old lefty made 16 relief appearances last year between the Rangers and Royals in his first taste of the big leagues. There should be some interest on the open market, but he’ll likely have to settle for a minor league contract.
Nick Kurtz is not in the lineup for Monday’s contest against the Rangers.
Kurtz takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field. The 22-year-old top prospect is hitting .250 (4-for-16) with three RBI through five games since being promoted last week to the big leagues. Some initial turbulence isn’t unexpected as Kurtz acclimates to life in the majors less than a calendar year after being selected fourth overall in the draft. It’ll be Tyler Soderstrom at the cold corner on Monday night in his place.
