Below are stacks to consider for Wednesday’s MLB DFS action
The Chalk
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox lead the main slate with the highest projected run total of the night per Vegas against Toronto with Aarón Sánchez on the mound. Sanchez has the worst K-BB% against left-handed hitters among any starter going this evening.
Boston has a string of lefties in the 5-7 part of their order with Mitch Moreland , Rafael Devers and Brock Holt hitting consecutively. Those three paired together would make for a less chalky stack if that’s what you’re after, even if you included some of the right-handers in front of them. But the chalk part of the lineup is 1-5 which includes Moreland along with platoon-proof right-handers Mookie Betts and J.D. Martínez along with their best lefty, Andrew Benintendi .
Oakland Athletics
The A’s have the second highest implied run total of the slate against Baltimore with Andrew Cashner on the mound. The A’s are getting a positive park shift on the road in Baltimore, and Cashner is one of three pitchers going tonight who has a single digit K-BB% against both left- and right-handed hitters.
Oakland has a whopping seven hitters on the active roster who have been at least 10 percent better than average against right-handed pitching this season. Matt Chapman , Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis have all been more than 40 percent better than average against righties, and they’ll hit 2-3-4 in the order tonight; that’s the chalk. You could make the stack less chalk by using either end of it with guys they’re connected to like Ramon Laureano at the top of Matt Olson and Stephen Piscotty in the middle of the order.
Not the Chalk
Kansas City Royals
The Royals certainly aren’t the chalk as their projected run total places them just below average for the slate. KC is hosting the White Sox with left-handed Carlos Rodon starting. Rodon is one of the three pitchers going tonight with a K-BB% in single digits against hitters from both sides, and he’s the only one facing a team that isn’t chalky. More importantly, Rodon is the left-handed starter going today with the worst numbers against righties.
Kansas City stacks must include Whit Merrifield who has a healthy 157 wRC+ vs. LHP this season, and he should be paired with the hitter who will follow him in the lineup, Adalberto Mondesí . Mondesi has a solid 160 wRC+ over the last two weeks. Skip Alex Gordon in the three-hole as he has been dreadful without the platoon advantage. But after Gordon you get a string of right-handers who will have the platoon advantage against Rodon, Jorge Bonifacio , Salvador Pérez and Alcides Escobar .
