Who’s Hot
Michael Chavis- Chavis has started off his career with the Red Sox by hitting .310/.442/.619 with four home runs and two stolen bases in 13 games. He is crushing the ball and may force the Red Sox into keeping him up once players get healthy. Some are scared he will get demoted once this happens, however, bet on the skills in the same way you should have when Cody Bellinger came up and crushed in his first Major League run a few years back.
Anthony Rizzo - Rizzo started the season out slow, but over the last week, he has hit .379/.441/.897 with four home runs and a stolen base. Rizzo hasn’t benefited from the juiced balls like everyone else, but they are starting to fly for him now. Add this in with premier plate discipline and contact skills, and this is why you don’t sell low on your high priced talent.
Ketel Marte - Over his last 10 days, Marte is hitting .353/.450/.912 with five home runs and a stolen base. More importantly, over the span, Marte is walking twice as much as he is striking out and showing an improved plate approach. He is batting first or second most games and has dual positional eligibility. Marte is moving into top 100 player territory.
Who’s Not
Eddie Rosario - Rosario has gone hitless over the last six games, capping an atrocious week at the plate for him. Don’t sweat it too much though, he was hitting .318/.348/.879 with 11 home runs over the previous 20 days. Rosario has the skill set that lends to streaks and when it is good, it is great, but when it is bad, it sucks. Don’t overreact one way or the other.
Matt Carpenter - Carpenter has really struggled this season and it has culminated in a stretch of 1-for-24 over the last week. Carpenter is coming off of a career season, but it is hard to tell what is going wrong with him right now. He has an improved lineup around him with Paul Goldschmidt in tow, but is barrelling the ball 5% less and his exit velocity has gone down in a year of juiced balls. You can’t sell yet, but this is concerning.
Renato Núñez - Nunez has struggled over the last week, hitting .091 in 22 plate appearance. This is what you get with a player like Nunez, when he is locked in, he has immense power, but he swings and misses a ton, so the cold streaks are brutal.
