Sometimes relief help is needed in the middle of the game, and just like that, a relief arm has taken over the Weekly Planner. Most of what you’ve seen in the piece will remain, however, there will be some changes starting this week, changes we know you will make use of each week. One of the changes is that we will no longer rank the top-75 pitchers for the week, however, if you check out the Streaming Pitchers and the Two-Start Pitchers pieces you will see plenty of options on what pitchers to play this week. In its place, there will be a new match-up section that we’ll explain further down the piece.

Austin Meadows , OF TB – Meadows has had himself a week as he put up a slash line of .500/.559/.867 over 34 PA with three homers, 11 RBI, nine runs, and three steals heading into Sunday. He isn’t striking out and he’s been the sparkplug of the Rays offense out of the leadoff spot. Even though he missed time on the IL earlier this month, he’s certainly making up for it with weeks like this and the Rays are playing in some reasonably friendly confines over next week in Detroit and Boston so his hot streak should continue.
Bryan Reynolds , OF PIT – Is there anyone who’s had a quieter great week than Reynolds? He slashed .444/.516/.667 over 31 PA with a home run, 10 runs, and five RBI for a resurgent Pirates offense. He also has a 10-game hitting streak going entering action Sunday and he’s hitting .417 in that span as well. For a guy who is still unheralded, the only thing he’s missing is a touch more counting stats but the rest of the offense needs to help kick in as well. It could be a bit of a tougher week next week against Atlanta and Milwaukee but those are still hitter-friendly parks.
Anthony Rizzo , 1B CHC – Rizzo is in the midst of a 13-game hitting streak heading into Sunday and over the last seven games he’s put up a .429/.520/.714 slash line in 25 PA with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs while walking 12-percent of the time. With the rest of the Cubs big bats seemingly in a hiatus given Kyle Schwarber ’s, Javier Báez ’s, Willson Contreras ’s, and Albert Almora’s bad weeks, the hot streak from Rizzo couldn’t have come at a better time. Rizzo is clearly a bonafide bat at first base but him finding his groove now bodes well for the summer run the Cubs will try and go on.
Who’s Not
Nicky Lopez , 2B KC – It was a great first few games for the rookie following the call-up but the last week, the tune has changed. He’s hitting .129/.156/.194 over 32 PA this week with three RBI and a run despite striking out nearly 20-percent of the time. He’s in the lineup because of his typically high average and OBP that he provides as well as some speed on the bases, however, if he can’t get on it reduces his value in the lineup for Kansas City.
Jean Segura , SS PHI – Segura looked to be the clutch bat in the Phillies lineup earlier in the season but his past week hasn’t been pretty. A .095/.174/.095 slash line in 23 PA with just two runs scored is not what you want to see from the number two hitter in the potent Phillies lineup. Given what the rest of the lineup continues to do around him and the caliber of hitter he has been, this slump will likely be short-lived but it definitely doesn’t help fantasy owners counting on those counting stats and steals.
Michael Chavis, 2B BOS – Chavis has been the talk of the rookies to this point and with good reason, but pitchers might just be starting to dissect his approach at this point. The last week he’s hit .143/.280/.143 with just one run and one RBI in the last six games. The path to playing time is clear with the all but near retirement announcement from Dustin Pedroia in the middle of last week so he will get the time needed to make adjustments to the adjustments being made against him, but growing pains will be inevitable for the rookie throughout the rest of the year.
Weekly Match-up Breakdowns
Brand new section for the weekly planner. Each of the match-ups for the start of the week will be broken down over 17 stat categories and how each team is performing in those categories. The teams in the left side of each match-up have their stats showing for road games this season while the teams on the right side are showing their stats for home games this season. This section will be updated on Thursday morning to account for the weekend series for each team so make sure to check back on Thursdays to see the updates.
