The final day of the Play-In Stage is finally here! Two best-of-five series are left to decide the final two teams who will break into the Group Stage of play. It is a tale of two matches when it comes to entertainment. For RNG, this could be one of the fastest best-of-five series they have ever played. DFM has come a long way in this series but they are not in the same weight class. On the other hand, the Evil Geniuses versus MAD Lions is a matchup of two flawed teams with very high ceilings and low floors. Series #1: Evil Geniuses v MAD Lions

Series Breakdown: Taking out my bias of the “hometown” Evil Geniuses, the MAD Lions should win this series. EG is coming into this tournament with a substitute ADC (Kaori) who has played admirably but the synergy just isn’t there still. They are playing one of the strongest bottom lanes (Unf0rgiven/Kaiser) in all of Europe. MAD have a really bad decision making and we find Elyoya/Armut/Nisqy picking bad fights in the top half of the map which should leave the door open for EG to pick up a win or two. EG will need to rely on the individual playmaking of jojopyun against the less mechanically skilled Nisqy in the middle lane. It will most likely be a heroic effort but will ultimately fall short.

Series Breakdown: It is hard to give a critical evaluation of this match. RNG came into this tournament as the reigning champions of the last international tournament (MSI) and have looked nearly unbeatable, only facing issues when they played the LCK’s DRX. DFM has a similar, slower-paced approach to the game like DRX but lacks any of the same talent in the top lane, jungle, and support positions. Even their mid (Yaharong), lacks the explosiveness needed to exploit the supportive nature of Xiaohu. This should be a very fast 3-0 for the LPL representative.
