CFB DFS Picks, Daily Fantasy Playbook & Schedule: October 19th
Now that Week 7 is behind us, it’s a great moment to refocus and tweak our strategies for Week 8 CFB DFS picks.
October 19th is packed with exciting matchups that are sure to deliver some big plays and solid DFS opportunities. Let’s jump into the Week 8 CFB DFS projections and continue riding the wave of this season’s success!
CFB DFS Lineups: Quarterbacks
Cam Ward, Miami Hurricanes
I could just leave his name up here with no write-up and it would probably still suffice. Ward’s worst game of the season was in Week 1 when he only put up 32.7 fantasy points. He’s a lineup lock every week, but against an absolutely dreadful Louisville pass defense? I’ll take that every day and twice on Sundays.
Cade Klubnik, Clemson Tigers
Another guy whose worst performance of the season came in Week 1, Klubnik has flown a bit under the radar with just how consistent he’s been from a CFB DFS picks perspective. He’s now logged 30.4 fantasy points in 3 of his last 4 starts and gets a nice, juicy matchup against UVA this week. The whole Clemson offense seems to really be clicking right now.
Kurtis Rourke, Indiana Hoosiers
I could go with the usual Riley Leonard value pick here, and he's certainly still in play, but how about someone even cheaper? This Indiana team has come out of nowhere to be a really good squad with Rourke, an Ohio transfer, leading the way. Since Week 2, he’s amassed between 26-32 fantasy points in each start and faces a Nebraska defense this week allowing 28 PPG.
CFB DFS Lineups: Running Backs
Dylan Sampson, Tennessee Volunteers
Sampson has now finished 3 separate outings this season with 3 touchdowns, giving him a total of 15 on the year. This dude is a monster no matter who he’s up against – even Alabama. Plus, this isn’t necessarily the typical ‘Bama defense that we’re accustomed to seeing. Expect another monster day on the ground for Sampson.
Tahj Brooks, Texas Tech Red Raiders
He came into the season as one of the country’s best pure runners and Brooks hasn’t disappointed one bit. The yardage had been there, but now, though, the touchdowns are starting to follow as he has 5 in his last 2 games. This is another back who doesn’t necessarily have the greatest matchup this week, but it's another back where that doesn’t matter.
Isaac Brown, Louisville Cardinals
Love this cheaper play here as Brown continues to impress filling in for a banged-up Cardinals running back room. It’s safe to say that he’s firmly atop the team’s depth chart after the past 3 weeks, where he's accumulated either 145+ total yards or a touchdown each game. His fantasy points in those matchups are as follows: 19.5, 24.1, 30.7. Trending upward, that’s for sure.
Jarquez Hunter, Auburn Tigers
Value is the name of the game for CFB DFS picks and that’s exactly what Hunter provides this week. He’s the clear workhorse in this backfield with 12+ carries in every game aside from Week 1 and has made the most of his opportunities. He hasn’t gotten into the endzone as much as you’d like, but this week, against a vulnerable Missouri run defense, he’s got a good shot.
CFB DFS Lineups: Wide Receivers
Travis Hunter, Colorado Buffaloes
Travis Hunter is Travis Hunter, and when he’s available, you want him in your lineup. The problem is that he was mainly unavailable last week after exiting with an injury, spoiling lineups everywhere. He’s reportedly good to go for this week, and if that’s the case, he’s a top option, but be cautious. It wouldn’t be crazy if they played it safe with the generational athlete.
Luther Burden III, Missouri Tigers
How about another banged-up wideout, eh? Except Burden III isn’t really banged up, it seems. He was on the injury report last week for the same reason (undisclosed) and had 5 catches for 59 yards and adding a couple of carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. This Tigers offense hasn’t been great, but a meeting with a below-average Auburn unit is just what they needed.
Malachi Fields, Virginia Cavaliers
When looking at CFB DFS projections, the value we’re getting on Fields seems a bit wild. He’s averaging almost 20 fantasy points per game and will face a Clemson pass defense that has been underwhelming thus far. He recorded a monster 19 targets last weekend and, with the Cavaliers figuring to be trailing for much of this one, could easily hit double digits once again.
Pat Bryant, Illinois Fighting Illini
When Bryant scores a touchdown, he puts up at least 23 fantasy points. When he doesn’t, he hasn’t hit more than 10. Fortunately for him, he’s got a solid shot at finding paydirt against a worse-than-expected Michigan pass defense. More of a shot in the dark here, but with him having three 2+ touchdown games already this season, it could pay off big.
Elijah Sarrat, Indiana Hoosiers
Sarrat appears to be Rourke’s go-to guy in this Hoosiers offense, snagging 7 catches for 125+ yards in back-to-back weeks. He didn’t even record a touchdown in Week 7 and still managed to score 23.5 fantasy points, proving that’s not all it takes for him to produce. In fact, I’d even expect some positive touchdown regression for him as we enter the back half of the campaign.

Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
