Mookie Betts (toe) remains out of the lineup for Sunday night’s series finale against the Yankees.
As expected, Betts will sit out Sunday’s rematch of last year’s Fall Classic after suffering a left toe fracture earlier this week. The 32-year-old superstar is aiming to rejoin Los Angeles’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Mets. All eyes will be on that lineup card.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reports Naz Reid is expected to opt out of his contract and enter free agency.
Reid has been one of the best reserves in the NBA over the last few seasons. If he chooses to test the free agent waters, it could be to simply gauge his value and earn a fair contract. It doesn’t guarantee that he will leave Minnesota, though if he is able to find a team that wants to him to start, that could be the best thing for his fantasy value. In that scenario, he would be drafted much earlier in fantasy drafts next season.
Christian Yelich was removed from Sunday’s game against the Phillies with a right hand contusion.
We’re assuming that X-rays came back negative since Yelich has been diagnosed with merely a bruise after being hit by a pitch during the opening frame of Sunday’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park. The 33-year-old fantasy stalwart has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, batting .305 (18-for-59) with five homers, 13 RBI and two steals over his last 15 games. It sounds like he’s managed to avoid serious injury. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Monday’s game against the Reds.
Tyler Soderstrom was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays for arguing balls and strikes.
Soderstrom was tossed after objecting to a called third strike in the second inning. He finished 0-for-2 with an RBI on the afternoon.
Christian Yelich left Sunday’s game against the Phillies with a potential injury.
Yelich was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the third inning after being hit by a pitch back in the opening frame. There should be an update on his status shortly.
Yankees released RHP Jake Woodford.
Woodford has a June 1 opt-out in his minor league deal with the Yankees and there isn’t a spot for him in the big leagues. The 28-year-old righty posted a lackluster 7.97 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 26/9 K/BB ratio across 35 innings (nine appearances, seven starts) last season between the White Sox and Pirates.
