CBB DFS Picks for Today: Tuesday, 3/5

Best CBB DFS Plays Today: Guards

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Mark SearsBAMAUF880035.78850033.12
This Alabama vs Florida game will surely be a high-scoring track meet and Mark Sears should anchor the Tide offense, per usual. Sears is averaging 22.5 PPG and 37 DK over the past 10 games. He’s pretty much a lock for 20 points and 35 DK or more in this fast-paced game flow. Sears had a stat-stuffing 39 DK vs Florida in the first matchup.
Terrence Shannon Jr.ILPUR850034.99860032.38
Terrence Shannon comes into tonight’s showdown vs Purdue playing at a high level. He’s averaging 23.8 PPG and 36 DK over the past 10 games. We know Shannon is locked into heavy shot volume and it’s allowed him to score 27+ points in five of the last seven games. The Illinois stud guard is a top-tier play tonight in a higher-scoring home matchup.
Markus BurtonNDUNC800031.1
It’s remarkable how consistent Markus Burton has been as a DFS stud despite Notre Dame’s poor real-life record. The Irish point guard is in a high-usage role with heavy shot volume, which keeps his floor pretty high. Burton is averaging 19.3 PPG and 36 DK over the past 10 games and he has no less than 30 DK in nine straight games. Even if Notre Dame loses big, Burton tends to get his stats and he should not go overlooked tonight in cash in a pace-boost home matchup.
Kevin McCullar Jr.KUKSU760037.12820033.41
Though dealing with a knee injury that was presumably going to keep him out longer, Kevin McCullar returned over the weekend and instantly had 20 points with 31 DK. That’s an impressive showing for a guy that’s apparently playing hurt. Interestingly enough, McCullar is at his cheapest DK price since the beginning of the season. He had a stat-stuffed 39 DK vs Kansas St in the first meeting and can replicate that output in this home rematch as a GPP upside stud.
Walter Clayton Jr.UFBAMA740029.45720026.87
Despite scoring 20 points with 30 DK last game and now in a fast-paced, high-scoring home matchup, Walter Clayton is really affordable on both sites as a solid cash option. He’s now averaging 19 PPG and 31 DK over the past 10 games. Clayton also went off for 27 points and 51 DK against Alabama two weeks ago. He really shouldn’t be priced below 8k on either site with his current form and favorable uptempo spot vs Bama’s shaky defense.
Matthew MurrellMISSUGA710029.63700027.21
Allen Flanigan appears to be in the doghouse for Ole Miss and it’s led to Matthew Murrell being the guy. He just had 21 points and 36 DK last game. Murrell is also averaging 17.2 PPG and 28 DK over the past 10 games. Murrell will likely go overlooked on this slate, but he’s firmly in play as an upside GPP option at his “cheaper” prices compared to other stud guards.

Rylan GriffenBAMAUF610020.38550018.44
Rylan Griffen is coming off one of his worst games in a while, so we get him at affordable price points tonight. He scored only 5 points on 2-for-11 shooting vs Tennessee’s elite defense, which is understandable. It’s a good bounceback spot in a fast-paced, high-scoring matchup here. Griffen had a solid 21 DK in the first meeting vs Florida but there’s upside for more since he shot just 2-for-11 from the field in that one.
Chase HunterCLEMSYR580021.4
Since he scored only 4 points with less than 10 DK last game, Chase Hunter comes at a notable discount tonight. It’s time to buy low on a guy who can easily score 15-20 points with 25-30 DK in this home pace-boost matchup against a shaky Syracuse defense. Hunter had 29 DK vs Cuse earlier this season and can get back to that level to exceed value.
Rivaldo SoaresOUCINCY560018.97550017.75
Rivaldo Soares has been a much bigger part of Oklahoma’s offense over the past month and it’s made him a solid DFS value too. Soares has scored double-digit points in seven of the past nine games, averaging 13.5 PPG over this stretch. He also now has 23+ DK in six straight games with the bigger role and uptick in minutes. Soares even moved into the starting lineup the past two games with Otega Oweh hitting the bench.
John-Michael WrightOKSTTTU550014.17500012.90
The ancillary stats aren’t strong for John-Michael Wright, but the Ok St shooting guard has a solidified scoring role to return value. Wright has now scored double-digit points in 11 of the past 12 games, averaging 13 PPG over this stretch. He comes in hot with 22 and 18 points scored in the past two contests, including 29 and 26 DK in those, respectively. Wright is OK State’s best three-point shooter and Texas Tech’s 3-point defense has worsened on the road.
Riley KugelUFBAMA420018.38500016.63
Riley Kugel is your classic boom-or-bust value play. His playing time has been fluctuating a lot lately, like when he only logged 3 minutes against Alabama. Yet, Kugel saw 30 minutes last game and put up 10 points with 19 DK. When Kugel gets 25-30 minutes, he should return value on his cheap prices. In theory, he can get you 20-30 DFS points in an uptempo, high-scoring home matchup. However, it’s impossible to predict his playing time right now – so roster with caution.

Zach EdeyPURIL1100046.43960043.65
As always with Zach Edey, get him into GPP lineups if you can fit him. The frontrunner for National POY has been simply dominant all year and especially lately, averaging 25.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 49 DK over the past 10 games. We can pencil him in for 25-30 points, 10+ boards, and 40+ DFS points on a regular basis. Illinois actually slowed him down in the first meeting for one of his lower outputs of the year. Keep that in mind, but Edey always has that slate-breaking upside. There are more optimal plays for cash.
Hunter DickinsonKUKSU860039.6840036.60
Hunter Dickinson was a beast vs Kansas State a month ago with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 44 DK. That’s a semi-normal stat line for the Jayhawks’ center, though, and he can easily repeat it tonight in the home rematch. Dickinson is playing well lately, averaging 19 PPG over the past four games. He’s putting up 17.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 36 DK per game over the past 10 contests and should have the advantage down low against K St’s frontcourt at home. He's a safe cash play and is notably cheaper than Edey.
Josh OduroPROVGU810032.05
Georgetown, with the worst interior defense in the Big East, tends to struggle against talented opposing bigs. It’s a good matchup for Josh Oduro, who had 22 points and 36 DK vs the Hoyas earlier this season. Oduro is averaging 20 PPG and 36 DK over the past 10 games and has been very solid for cash. He can also play up to his ceiling in easier matchups like tonight.
PJ HallCLEMSYR760034.8
When Clemson faced Syracuse earlier this season, PJ Hall put up 37 DK with a double-double. He took advantage of the pace-boost matchup against Cuse’s weaker, undersized frontcourt defense and can do it again in tonight’s home rematch. Hall is actually at his season-low DK price tag despite dropping 33 and 31 DK in the past two games. It’s a good buy-low opportunity for a guy who should be priced above 8k.
Jalon MooreOUCINCY660022.43570020.78
Jalon Moore is a better play on FD because of the savings, but either way it’s tough to ignore how good he’s been. The Oklahoma power forward has 30+ DK in four of the past six games while averaging 13 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 27 DK over the past nine contests. Moore hadn’t been too trustworthy this season but he’s in much better form right now. He had 27 DK vs Cincy in the first meeting.
Grant NelsonBAMAUF650025.68680024.25
Against Florida two weeks ago, Grant Nelson went off for 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 45 DK. Though we shouldn’t expect a repeat of that stat line in this rematch, it’s a good glimpse of Nelson’s real GPP upside at his best. He’s impossible to trust in cash with inconsistent production and playing time. Still, Nelson has the ceiling to smash his sub-7k price tags and it’s encouraging that he dominated this matchup already.

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Nick PringleBAMAUF550014.26520013.63
Since returning from suspension a month ago, Nick Pringle has become a bigger part of Alabama’s frontcourt rotation. He’s logged 25+ minutes in three of the past four games, double-digit points scored in five of the past six, and 21+ DK in four of the past six. Pringle is still cheap enough to roster as a cash value with some GPP upside, like when he put up 29 DK last outing.
Micah HandlogtenUFBAMA550019.83490018.76
Micah Handlogten was a force inside against Alabama two weeks ago with 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 29 DK in 31 minutes. The Florida big man has been very inconsistent in real life and DFS and is extremely boom-or-bust. At his ceiling, though, Handlogten can exceed value if he’s priced below 6k on the DK slate and below 5k on the FD slate. He has DK outputs of 31, 29, 32, 46, and 32 over conference play.
Mason GillisPURIL510015.09470013.72
Mason Gillis is at some affordable price points on both sites for cash lineups. The Purdue power forward is averaging a solid 17 DK over the past 10 games with the ceiling for 20-25 DFS points when he hits some threes. That was the case in the first matchup vs Illinois when Gillis had 21 DK. He tends to do just enough in ancillary stats despite the limited offensive output to return value. Gillis has 20+ DK in five of the past nine games.
Jamarion SharpMISSUGA470015.56450015.07
Jamarion Sharp is another boom-or-bust GPP value to consider tonight. The Ole Miss big man just put up 28 DK last game in 25 minutes. Usually, his playing time and real-life production are way too inconsistent to trust in cash. Still, the upside for 20+ DFS points is there like he’s done multiple times in conference play. Georgia has the worst interior defense in the SEC with poor rebounding and offensive shot-blocking rates. That all plays into Sharp’s strengths.
Chauncey WigginsCLEMSYR390011.51
With Jack Clark out last game, Chauncey Wiggins moved back into Clemson’s starting lineup and scored 12 points with 19 DK in 32 minutes. He was barely playing off the bench lately but Clark’s absence opens up minutes on the wing. Wiggins took advantage of his starting role last game and he can give us 20 DK or so if Clark is out again tonight. That’s worth a GPP value shot at sub-4k in a higher-total game.
