Orioles recalled RHP Kyle Gibson from High-A Aberdeen.
Gibson will make his 2025 debut tonight in a start against the Yankees. He had a 3.75 ERA and a 13/2 K/BB in 12 innings over his three minor league starts.
Orioles optioned RHP Kade Strowd to Triple-A Norfolk.
Strowd did not pitch during his one day with the Orioles.
Manuel Margot, who has missed three weeks with left knee inflammation, is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo.
Margot could be activated this weekend. Justyn-Henry Malloy and Colt Keith are probably the top candidates to be sent down to make room for him on Detroit’s roster.
Braves recalled RHP AJ Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Smith-Shawver will start in Colorado tonight. He was 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA and a 17/8 K/BB in 13 2/3 innings over three starts before being sent down earlier this month. It’s possible he’ll last in the rotation this time, but he really needs to cut down on the walks some, especially being as much of a flyball pitcher as he is.
Braves designated RHP Ian Anderson for assignment.
So, the Braves simply picked Anderson up from the Angels in the hopes of being the ones to slip him through waivers. He was claimed Monday but never added to the team’s active roster. He’ll have to accept the Braves’ Triple-A assignment if he clears waivers this time around.
Willi Castro (oblique) could return to the Twins’ lineup this weekend.
Castro has been sidelined with an oblique injury since April 16th and was finally placed on the IL late last week. He has been swinging the bat right-handed and plans to swing left-handed on Tuesday. If his body responds well to that, the Twins could bring him back for this weekend’s series against Boston, which could cut into the playing time for Brooks Lee or Edouard Julien.
