Ryan Kesler's contract is back with the Anaheim Ducks after a potential trade to Vegas was invalidated by the NHL on Wednesday.

Kesler, John Moore and a conditional second-round pick in 2023 or 2024 were sent to Vegas in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov. However, Dadonov had a limited no-trade clause that had not been complied with, so the deal has been voided. Kesler's career is over due to a hip problem and his contract expires after this season.

Ryan Kesler hasn't played since March 2019 because of chronic hip problems.

Kesler revealed in a TSN documentary called "The Problem of Pain," that he developed chronic digestive problems for overuse of medications like toradol, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that isn't recommended for long-term use. He developed colitis in 2015 and in the fall of 2019, Kesler was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. He feels that teams and their doctors need to do a better job of informing players about the risks of pain medications.
