2024 Player Outlook
Malachi Corley was a reception machine at Western Kentucky - in his third season he actually registered over 100 receptions. A huge number of those were shorter targets as, per Pro Football Focus, 38% of Corley's targets came behind the line of scrimmage. In fact, 44.3% of his targets in general were screens which is the most of any receiver in college. So it seems pretty clear to us what the New York Jets had in mind when selecting Corley in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They have Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams on the outside so, in an ideal world, Corley becomes their slot wide receiver where he can chop things up for the Jets underneath. Big YAC numbers in college helped boost his overall production numbers so hopefully that translates to the next level.

Jets signed No. 65 overall pick WR Malachi Corley to a four-year, $6.073 million contract.
Corley was selected by the Jets in the third round after totaling 79 receptions for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns during his final year at Western Kentucky. In 2022, the versatile receiver ripped off a 101-1295-11 line and had a well-renowned reputation for his physical style of play and ability to create after the catch. While second-year UDFA Xavier Gipson has been rumored as the early favorite to earn the role as the Jets’ primary slot receiver, Corley should eventually take hold of that role during the season, if not much sooner.
Speaking on the Official Jets podcast, Aaron Rodgers said Malachi Corley was his “favorite receiver in the draft.”
Whether or not Rodgers’ affinity for Corley translates to success in Corley’s rookie season is to be determined, but it’s high praise coming from Rodgers, who is known for latching on to certain receivers. Garrett Wilson will be the unquestioned WR1 in the Jets’ offense this season, but Corley’s ability to succeed in the short areas of the field and create after the catch could open him up for ample opportunity in his first season. Rodgers also said of Corley that he “really felt like [Corley] was going to fit in with what [the Jets] are trying to do” this upcoming season. The addition of Mike Williams only adds to the competition Corley will face for targets, but his skill set is such that he could be a weekly factor even if Williams and Wilson are seeing the majority of targets further down field. An injury to either receiver would immediately raise Corley’s fantasy ceiling.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Jets general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh were “elated” to take WR Malachi Corley in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, is “excited” to work with Corley — a Western Kentucky product — after watching his college game film. The Jets considered taking Corley as high as the 40th pick, according to Fowler. They eventually drafted him at pick No. 65. Corley, who was compared to Deebo Samuel in the pre-draft evaluation process, was a screen-catching merchant at Western Kentucky, where he totaled 180 receptions (and 22 receiving touchdowns) over his final two seasons, running 80 percent of his routes from the slot. Though Saleh recently described Corley as a bit raw, the rookie could be a mainstay in three-receiver sets for New York this season. Rotoworld’s Denny Carter and what it might mean for 2024.
Jets traded up with the Panthers to select Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley with the No. 65 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Corley (5’11/215) has a strong, compact frame that helped him slip 70 tackles throughout his college career. Corley played 91.6 percent of his college snaps from the slot and was often tasked with creating yards after the catch. A career 6.3 ADOT is paired with an 8.2 YAC/REC, but Corely did catch 35-of-71 intermediate and deep targets over his final two collegiate seasons while totaling 870 yards and 10 touchdowns on those targets. He was the beneficiary of manufactured touches during his days at Western Kentucky and could thrive as an outlet option for Aaron Rodgers. He won’t see an overwhelming number of targets as a rookie, but the presence of Garrett Wilson will open up space for him to beat defenses with the ball in his hands.
