49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will bring in competition for kicker Jake Moody.
After Moody missed 10-of-34 field-goal attempts last season, it would be a little silly not to. The 49ers’ kicker appears to be yet another cautionary tale against drafting kickers early. The former third-rounder was acceptable in his rookie season, hitting 21-of-25 attempts and a league-high 60 extra points, but has made just 16-of-29 attempts beyond 40 yards in his first two years. The competition is not on the roster yet, but the 49ers are likely waiting for the draft at this point to see if anyone they grade highly shakes loose.
CBS Sports’ Matt Lively reports the 49ers’ new P Pat O’Donnell will hold for K Jake Moody.
Moody had a rough showing in Week 10, converting just 3-of-6 field goals in the 49ers’ Week 10 win over the Buccaneers, though Moody did covert both point-after attempts. Hopefully, the new working relationship will lead to a more stable showing for the veteran kicker.
49ers K Jake Moody (ankle) was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 10 against the Buccaneers.
The 49ers’ kicker returns for what could be a high-scoring affair. Fantasy managers in need of a capable kicker in an efficient offense should check their free agency pool to see if Moody went unclaimed during this week’s waiver wire run.
49ers K Jake Moody (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Moody has been sidelined since Week 5 but the team released fill-in K Anders Carlson on Tuesday so it appears as though the team expects Moody to return in Week 10. Moody is worth an add for kicker-needy teams.
